Arriving in New Zealand

by vtveen

Most of the visitors will arrive in New Zealand by airplane. On board you will get a so called 'New Zealand Passenger Arrival Card - and Notes'. All passengers, including children have to fill in (in English) these card. You have to show these card (and passport) at the Passport Control, when entering the country. After you have picked up your baggage you have to show again these Arrival Card at a biosecurity check. There are a couple of very good websites with information about the arrival procedures in New Zealand:- http://www.customs.govt.nz/library/form/Passenger+Arrival+Forms/default.htmWith a downloadable arrival card in several languages, so it is possible to prepare on how to complete the card; also with a lot of examples.- http://www.auckland-airport.co.nz/AirportInformation/International-terminal/International-arrivals.aspxAll the arrival procedures at Auckland International...

Camper Van/Motor Homes in New Zealand

by ronlaughlin

Perhaps I can help others as yourself. New Zealand being a small country doesn't have camper van rental agencies in every nook and cranny. Most agencies generally only have outlets in Auckland and Christchurch. A very few now include Queenstown and a couple have pickup/dropoff in Wellington/Picton. One works out of Nelson. I am only talking with knowledge of the ones I trust and know(over 20 companies). There may be some small companies I am not aware of.............and as such wouldn't recommend at this time.Several will allow drop offs say in Wellington/Picton if you want to pay the heavy cost of that.....a lot of dollars! So if thinking about camper van/motorhome rentals think Auckland/Christchurch for the best service/cost.If you must come into New Zealand in Auckland two options with short time - one pick up vehicle in Auckland, drive to Picton via Rotorua, Waitomo, Taupo to...

Campervan recommendations

by klmousseau

Campervan travel is the best for getting around NZ. I've visited NZ twice and both times I rented a 2 berth campervan from Affordable Motorhome rentals. They are located in Auckland and Christchurch and offer a one-way rental. http://www.affordablemotorhome.co.nz/They are extremely nice people, well organized and very helpful. I had the same exact campervan both times as well, the "bed-in-the-middle" version. I found that to be the most efficient. The vans are very clean, well equipped and they offer the diesel models too. Yes, diesel is much cheaper than petrol, 20cents cheaper when i was there. If you hire a van for a longer period they will give you a discount. I found their rates to be very competitive with the larger companies. Not to say anything bad about the Escape vans, but be aware that they are not "hi-tops". meaning that you can't stand up in them. They are sleeping vans and...

Relocating cars throughout New Zealand for FREE!

by Annika2008

Hi all,I heard about www.transfercar.co.nz a while ago and decided to give it a go. The concept is to relocate rental cars and campervans for rental companies. But instead of hunting those deals down yourself, they are all centrally located on their website. No frills, not complicated and no hidden costs: The way I like it. You just register yourself, select the car you can use and off you go. In my case: I picked up a cute four wheel drive at Queenstown airport and drove it to Christchurch city on the 17th of October this year. The allowed k's in total were 550 to do within a day. And that was ok for me because I just wanted to get from a to b really. The car was insured so I only needed to pay for the petrol (diesel in this case) and that was it. Dropped it off in Christchurch and I was were I needed to be and could move on from there. So yep, worked for me and well worth a try:...

Kiwi Campers - Christchurch & Auckland

by dandeelionz

We booked our campervan through Kiwi Campers who were absolutely fantastic and i would recommend them to anyone. Their service was outstanding and their prices were very very good. We picked up our van in Christchurch and travelled thoroughly through the South Island and took the van on the Interislander Ferry across to the North Island and toured through there also. We didn't have any problems what so ever!!! :)

InterCity Coach - if you are over 30 LOL

by Kakapo2

If you are over 30 ;-) and/or want to get from A to B on a bus as fast as possible the InterCity Coach (and Newmans Coachlines) is probably the choice for you. Like Kiwi Experience they have passes - just another system - which in total is more flexible, as you can travel in all directions, back and forth, and to the same place several times. But you have no real tour guide, but on a trip on the West Coast I found out that the bus does stop for photo, toilet breaks and a coffee, and the driver gave comments about the attractions along the way. However, I can imagine that this gets less if the bus is running behind schedule.Although they have quite a good network they do not cross the South Island via Arthur's and Lewis Passes, so the only way to the West Coast is by travelling around half the island. This is a big minus. They have four kinds of passes of which - as the name suggests - the...

Allways car rental

by newkiwi

Petrol prices are high all over the world now, so when friends decided to visit my family, I was looking for a small economical car for them to cruise around town. The quote Allways rentals gave was the best I managed to find. Arriving Christchurch they found a family-friendly team that will go the extra mile for their client. The car was great! Small, economical, looked great and had no problems at all. Will certainly use them in the future and will recommend as well.

Fun way to explore NZ

by sani_adinoto

Travelling around NZ in motorhome is easy and convenient. We don't have to unpack and pack every day like when we stay at hotels / motels. Our 'home' travels with us!. Lots of quality camper park all around NZ. We can stop and spend time we need in every spot we want to.

Always carry your tickets

by unravelau

An aspect to this is another safeguard in these times of hijacking etc. If a hijacker was silly enough to not have a return ticket or another place to be expected then that surely would ring alarm bells for the ticket officers.Carole.
