The local street vendor down the street from our hotel was a good place to eat. They offered more of the American fare consisting of a hamburger and soft drinks. Ask a Palaun and they will give you directions to a good eatery or just follow the families. Sometimes, they may even invite you to their place for lunch or dinner. I wouldn't be surprised by the friendliness of the island people. About a block from our hotel was a grocery store and across the way from them was a small mom and pop market with homemade paluan foods to go consisting of fresh fish, dried fish, seaweed salads, taro, turtle soup, yes turtle soup and lots of fresh fruits. If you don't feel like venturing outside, breakfast at our local hotel was wonderful. It's buffet style for one price was an excellent choice. Dim Sum, oatmeal, cereals as well as bacon, eggs and potatoes to choose from. More vegetables and fruits than you could ask for and all very fresh.
At the mom and pop eatery, I favored the dried fish which was a flounder looking whitefish measuring 1'x1'. Pretty large by American standards and smoked fresh that morning. They sell out very quickly and by the afternoon, they've all been sold. It's a hearty fish when washed down with an ice cold beer, thus making it my all time favorite.
