The essentials for an exotic sun-filled holiday
Palau is near the equator where the heat can be unbearable at mid-day. Like a tropical laidback place, just bring light wear - shorts, t-shirts, bermudas, swim wear, sun glases, sandals, a good pair of Tevas (for land tours) and a hat. Advisable to bring a water proof jacket along if you're taking long boat rides to the little islands or diving spots. Sometimes it rains.

Pharmacies selling products under the US brand are available in pharmacies.

    Bring lots of memory cards.

    Island Stylin'
Shorts, t-shirts, and sandals will see you through your trip. You will definately want to bring a swim suit and sunglasses.

Women will want to bring tampons. These are hard to find and expensive if you find them.

Bring plenty of film. You will want to take lots of pictures and film is very expensive here. If you are bringing video equipment remember to bring any possible replacement parts you will need, none will be available on-island. Important Tip ***Bring one or two disposable underwater cameras, the marine life is among the best in the world. IF you find underwater cameras they will be HIGHLY overpriced.***

You may want multiple swimsuits because most activities here are water related. You also may want boat shoes (ones with a hard bottom but mesh top and sides.) These are one of the best ways to protect your feet while kayaking, diving, and snorkeling.

You may want your own snorkeling or diving equipment. But all is available for you to rent if you forget.

Pack like you're going to the jungle :-)
We stayed at a hotel so bringing our regular luggage was fine. We made a point to bring only one bag each and A BACKPACK!!

Island clothing prevails in this climate. Shorts, tank tops, sports bras, bathing siuts, sarongs, hats, flip flops and plenty of sunblock are essential.

Things we brought that were helpful: Wet-naps (to periodically freshen up with), washcloths (for sweating), bug spray, mini-first aid kit, SUNBLOCK, any type of good lotion or aloe for sunburns.

Bringing your own cameras/video cameras is fine. When we were on our snorkel tour and also when traveling on the boats, we we concerned that our cameras would be damaged. We kept a close eye on them at all times and we were fine. Some people opted to rent cameras, so as to not damage their own. We also rented an underwater camera/videocam for around $35USD. This turned out to be one of the best purchases on the entire trip!!

The day we took the WWII tour on Pelilu we wore our sneakers - which is imperative for the hiking. Also, bringing our own snorkel gear made a difference (including our anti-fogging gel).

FYI: After our all day snorkel tour, I was suffering for classic "tennis elbow". My elbow joints were killing me all night. Eventually my husband took a taxi to the local grocery store and bought me some "ben gay" type gel. I'm just letting you all know that this might be something you should consider bringing if you are susceptible to this.
