Diving, Diving , and more...
Diving, Diving , and more diving. Snorkel in Jellyfish lake. Kayak up one of the streams and dodge Crocs. Visit the WWII battlefield at Peleliu (and find lots of cool relics).

    Boat Trip
Even if you don't dive, go on a boat trip to explore the Rock Islands, the Milky Way, lunch picnic, hiking, JellyFish lake, etc. Many things are only seen via boat since you have to go to another island.

  • Address: Get boat at the Palau Marina
  • Directions: take road from town till you see the marina. Ask about going on a boat tour, or scheduling one for the next day.

    Sunsets and Sand
It's all natural beauty. Unspoiled beaches. Just admire the serenity with a drink or two.
So many bars and cafes on the beach to chose from.
Diving is almost obligatory if you go there. Most people who visit, do so for the diving.
Old plane and shipwrecks from WW2, many are designated "war graves" but you can dive in groups or solo.
Plenty of boat hires, plenty of accommodation unless you take a on-board diving with sleep on boats.
US$ currency makes it a little expensive.

  • It's not really a "Must See" coz you'll be looking out the window anyway (hopefully).

One of the most amazing things about this unbelievable place is the landing of your aircraft.
As far as i know, aircraft only enter from Guam, Tokyo and Manila.
Continental Micronesia flies there from Manila (my entrance point) and the landing will blow your mind.

You travel for 2 1/2 hours over a boring blue ocean at 33,000 feet but as the 170 odd islands come into view, the sight is breathtaking.
Small "rock islands" by the dozen, like someone tossed fresh boquets of flowers out the window of the previous aircraft.
They look to be only a few square metres in area from the a few thousand feet up (and when you get down to sea level, they're not much bigger).
Only about 10 islands are inhabited, as the rest can't be landed on. Centuries of sea erosion have left wide overhangs that surround these islands leaving overhangs like dozens of green umbrellas poking out of the ocean.
Surrounded by the beautifully blue ocean and the corral reefs, this group of islands is a most spectacular view from the air.

Get near a window and stay there until the hostie ties you to your seat.
It's THE most amazing aeroplane sight i've ever seen.
Finally, banking at 90 degree angles to get the right approach, you see the strip in front of you, the whole 200 bloody metres of it (i'm joking, it just looks like that).

The aeroplane drops like a brick and as she hits the dirt, the captain throws out a dozen parachutes to slow her down quickly enough to stop making a wet landing.
    WOW.

Search the net for photos as i couldn't take any while leaning my sweaty bod over the poor guy in the window seat.

    Etpison museum
Ok so once youre burnt, or it rains and you need to do something inside for a bit I recomend the museum. You can walk through in twenty minutes, theres a gift shop upstairs, as well as a restaurant, although I had some pretty bland chicken there. My prized possesion I brought back is a two book set all about Palau, with an overview of all the little obscure island cousins you never heard of. The book was made by Mandy Etpison, the president of Palau's wife. I got the book upstairs, and I think it was around 60 bucks. The museum is cool the Palaun first birth ceramony is interesting, info on the money beads, turtle shells, stuff about the chuuky money ext. At least check it out.

    Rock Island Swimming
On our snorkle trip, we went to “Sapporo”, a small opening in a rock island that one could swim through. We kept asking Aris how we would swim back through, but he was non-committal. So we all hopped in, got swept through the opening. In a couple of minutes, the current changed and we were swept back through. That was fun.

Of Mandarin fish and manta rays
One of the best house reef dives - plenty of mandarin fish that make a great object for underwater photography.

Another favourite dive site is German Channel where at both times to the site, we spotted manta rays.
