Storyboards

by GuthrieColin

Storyboards are beautiful and are one of the great lasting traditions of the Palauan People. The Jail on the island has a storyboard shop where the inmates are alowed to carve these works of art. If you visit the Eptson Museum you will see many of these storyboards for sale. Beware they are very expensive. So much time goes into carving these boards and that time is rewarded with a high price tag. Some of the larger or more intricate boards can easily excede 500.00 $ US. These are each one of a kind works of art. Hand carved and like nothing you have ever seen before. If you are looking at storyboards for purchase, be sure you don't fall in love with one untill you know how much it costs.

Insist on dive spots you'd like to see

by petersnice

Palau have two spectacular diving spots, Blue Holes and Blue Corner. Most divers want to visit them so dive shops choose them very frequently. I've been to Palau for a couple of weeks so you can imagine that I've seen Blue Corner more times than I really asked for. So do your homework before going to Palau, read about Chandelier Cave, Helmet wreck, Jellyfish lake etc., then insist at the dive shop that you'd also like to see spots beside Blue Corner.

Speciality Diving...

Here is the famed Chambered Nautilus of Palau famed. These unique creatures lurk at depths of over 400 feet which is out of the reach of sport diving. Some of the local dive shops here runs these gimmicky dives where they catch a few nautilus's and drag them up to about 15 m deep for divers to play with... Not for me.... If the thing likes it down deep, lets leave it there. Also, Ive heard that they often don't survive the return trip down to their home due to being picked off by trigger fish and the like... If you want to see one of these up close, maybe just go to the Palau Aquarium where they got a couple, and leave the wild ones be...

Sea Walking...

by kenmerk

Well maybe not a tourist trap, but its not quite what its billed to be.... Ive seen pictures of this sea walking thing, where they put a helmet with a tethered air line on you and let you walk around on the bottom of the ocean. The things is pretty lame though. You have to keep your head straight up and can hardly move. Also, since you can't turn your head it makes looking around pretty difficult. You just kinda lurch around on the bottom like Frankenstein... (and watch the many fish laugh at ya...) Well, I'll try most anything at least once... ;o)
