Malaria is rife in the Solomon Islands. At the time of my visit, there was no hotter place in the world for the disease than here. Gizo seems to be subject to frequent water shortages and brief droughts--surprising given its location near the equator and its lush surroundings. Be careful with mosquitos due to Malaria. Just be careful with your money and try to stay with locals wherever you are. The more locals you befreind the safer you are. Sometimes, even in town , villagers will rip you off when you buy artifacts. If you have a local with you, you are garunteed to get a good deal!more
