A lot of cool, loose clothes and sunblock. The heat was incredible but the humidity was even worse. I don't think I had ever experienced such an intense combination. Luckily, the beaches are so beautiful, you'll never want to get out of the water. Take some mosquito repellent, especially if you plan on staying on the off-shore resorts. I found that 400mg of vitamin B1 kept me bite-free even without applying repellent.
You won't want to bring more than one pair of pants. You'll mostly wear shorts. No coats here. Pack lite- you'll be glad you did. 1) Your Bug spray2) Your Sun-Tan lotion3) Your Bible (don't forget that?!) There are a couple places to check e-mail. One is in The Reserve Bank of Tonga (in Town). They charge about T$3. per hour, great deal.
Take a sweat-shirt / jumper. In July it can get very chilly in the evening in Nuku'alofa. There was one night where I was very thankful I had a big heavy pull-over. Take Mosquito repellent! It's a good idea to pack your own snorkel and flippers. If you get invited onto a yacht or go beachcombing, it is handy to have your own gear. I wasn't going to bother, but I am really glad I did now!
