2 traps
The first trap is when you land in Nuku'alofa. Taxi drivers from different "Guest houses" try to get you while you're disoriented from flying. My companion and I were taken to Tony's Guesthouse which is what you'd imagine a 3rd world prison cell to look like. We felt deceived and tried to leave, but Tony wouldn't let us go without paying him $30 Pa'anga. If you're wingin' it, go into town and figure out the best place to go. The second is a man in Neiafu, Vava'u named Lofi. I met Lofi on a bridge trying to have a quiet walk when he came up and started offering all of this stuff to me. At 8am the next day, he showed up at my rental house and showed me around the island (most of which i had seen) in my own car while smoking my cigarettes and stopping to cut down papayas and plantains (neither of which I asked for nor fancy). Then he stopped and asked for ten bucks and got 2 bags of kava...
