Go shopping and snorkelling. The shopping was great - duty free prices are very good for alcohol and perfume.
The local kids are adorable. Who can resist them when they are trying to sell you a bargain. They even sing and dance for you! Leave a Comment |
Go scuba diving just out of Port Vila, the capital !!!! It was so great with crytal water, dolphins all around and maximum visibility at 20 meters below surface !!! One of the best diving spots I ever been
Port Vila being the capital, people are used of seeing tourists....but just go around Efate island...You quickly go out of any kind of 'city civilization' and find funny locals watching at you like if you were an E.T. ! The picture shows the main market in downtown Port-Vila...full of colours and life ! Leave a Comment |
Get out of Port Vila and explore other islands. Vanuatu is where BUNGY JUMPING originated (as kind of a rite of passage), and there are tours that take you to see how it's really done. There are ECO-TOURIST junkets you can pick up out of Port Vila that will get you to community-based guest houses in very traditional settings. There's even an island where you can climb up and look down into an ACTIVE VOLCANOE (watch for large chunks of rock falling from the sky). And much, much more. Try Kava. Kava is a nasty-tasting drink derived from the root of a cactus plant (or something like that). It's not illegal or anything, and it gives you a nice mellow buzz -- perfect for hanging out and shooting the breeze on a warm South Pacific evening. It's cheaper and way less sloppy (buzz-wise) than drinking beer, and it's what the locals do. Anyone in Vila can point you in the direction of a Kava bar. Leave a Comment |
The local brewery is Tusker. They make at least 3 kinds of Tusker(normal, wheat, export) plus a beers on license; among them Pripps Blue (Swedish!). All the beers are relatively light and easy to drink. The draught beer is extremely cold in Vanuatu. Too cold for my taste. Mind this if u get troat infections easily. Better to drink bottled beer then. Leave a Comment |
Anyway, the life over there was really relaxing one!!! I envy it sometimes. It is too hectic to living in a fast pace big city like Seoul. Have a look at this exotic island! {Umm. It has been 10 years since I have been there!!! I miss my days on the ship! Do you know what is the most interesting thing to do on the ship? It was dancing in the nightclub!! No need to explain, huh?} Leave a Comment |
I was on Achille Lauro for 2 weekĄ¯s New Year cruise of 1992 which departed from Sydney harbour. Our first stop was the Port Villa which is the capital of Vanuatu. It was really a little town, however I was really amazed when I saw Chinese restaurant in the middle of the main road which is about 200 meters altogether. It is really amazing to see most of China town is located in the middle of the cities. And all cars were Japanese!!!
So native. This place makes you relax so much. One old lady who was with us said that it hasn't been changed from her last trip which was 10 years backwards. I am not sure whether it has changed so much since I have been there. I hope not... You can see the back of our guide. He walked really fast!!! Leave a Comment |
