Port Vila can be very expensive for food so for the budget conscious (aren't we all?) they also serve Counter Lunch and Bistro Dinners at the adjoining Mamu Bar.

I took this photo of a stack of lobster/crayfish while on Mystery Island. This scene is typical of many that you will find all around the islands of Vanuatu. The local villagers will ply their treasures from the deep for a very cheap price, (this stack of 6 was AUS$20 for the lot!) as it is their only real means of obtaining an income. I would suggest that you do not purchase any of the seafood unless you have travel insurance that covers food poisoning and has an evacuation clause in it!!! If you wish to give the locals an income take a photo of them and give them a few dollars as a donation.
I did not taste anything. Leave a Comment

Well, when close to paradise eat close to the water. Your experience will be woth it! Situated on the bay you can enjoy fish, crab or steak while watching the fish dart below you! Most diners attempt to feed the fish by throwing pieces of their breadrolls into the water. I enjoyed the coconut crab on our visit here in 2002 before I realised what I was eating! I ordered the crab and advised Anne that you could not taste the coconut. To my horror, a fellow diner advised that they were called "coconut crab" because they climbed cocont tree and lived in the branches. They were on the endangered species list and we should not order them! How good did I feel???????? Leave a Comment

Mangoes Restaurant is part of the resort... They have great food at reasonable prices. We had a free light breakfast every morning (pancakes, toast, french toast or honey & banana on toast). We also had 3 other meals there and each was very good.
Probably the most fun was the seafood platter which costed 3500 vatu (about A$40) for the two of us... Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Port VilaPhone: 24923

The restaurant at Iririki is fairly expensive but if you eat outside by the pool it is cheaper. The food is good and the view is amazing. :) Leave a Comment

Waterfront Bar & Grill is situated on the main street of Port Vila on (surprise, surprise), the waterfront! Dining is in the open but still undercover should one of those sudden rain storms decide to hit. The staff are great, the food is yum, and the challenge of this restaurant is trying to roll up the steep hill when you leave after eating way too much! .
A must at any restaurant in Vanuatu is their steak or seafood. I had Seafood Chowder at the Waterfront (first time) and I couldn't believe how yummy it was. Problem is, none of us realised how big it would be and we were so full afterwards we didn't know how we were going to fit in our main. Coconut crab is popular here, and you have to try it once at least! It's messy and long hard work cracking open the shells - if you're starving it might not be a good idea! ;-) Leave a Comment

Jill's Cafe is an American style cafe with lots of hot dogs, chips, burgers etc. The food probably isn't all that good (or so I thought) but there were always lots of people (tourists) in there.. Michener's is the restaurant at Iririki. It is beautifully presented and has a famous chef. The seafood platter there is a must for visitors and it is all exquisite, full of flavour and the service is great. I highly recommend the creme brulee, which was such a large serving I could not finish it. A must to enjoy fine dining in Vanuatu!

The cafe is part of the resort but can be used by anyone. The prices are fairly similar to those on the main island but I wouldn't want to eat there every day...
I had a beef burger and it was fine... Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Hideaway Island

The waterfront restaurant is the best in Port villa. It sits right on the water with a beautiful view and the food is cooked to perfection. Sometimes it is wise to book as it can get very busy. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherComparison: about averageAddress: Port Villa
