Efate is... pretty cool, but get off Efate and WOW! It's an awesome country! To get out of the more touristy destinations - head to : Ambrym (volcanoes!) - just take your own water! - as part of the island is in drought at the moment (2005/06); Epi - beautiful island; Pentecost - amazing not just for the land diving; Malekula - French speaking! - but you can get away with some English. The costs to get to these outer islands are quite dear - maybe $70-$100 AU for a flight, but if you catch a boat it will be much cheaper and a really good experience. Accommodation on the outer islands varies from Free if you get talking to locals - to $40 maybe a night if you have to pay. It really depends on your friendless, willingness to accept and share culture. So if you really want the tropical island paradise - take 2 weeks in Vanuatu. Port Vila may seem nice, but get off Efate and you really have something amazing! For any more info or pictures: gordio_@hotmail.com

For a unique experience catch a bus to the Port Vila Market in down town Port Vila. Market days are Monday through to Saturday lunch time 24hours a day. Local organic produce is sold from tables by the local women and men and can range from fruits and vegetables to chickens goats and everything in between. The market is a regular meeting place for the locals from outer villages to catch up on news and is a rainbow of colours with the spectacular island dresses worn by the ladies and beautiful local flowers for sale. A short walk along the water front will bring you to the "Momma's Market" where clothing and souvenirs are available for purchase. Take some time to have a chat with the lovely local ladies who all have interesting stories to tell about life here. The essence of Vanuatu is the people so take some time to have a chat about life here with the locals and they in turn will be intersted in where you come from in the world. GOLF. This was someting else that we did whilst there, its a bit expensive but well worth a round, we played at the White sands Golf Resort, if you ring them first they will come and get you, we found out after we got tto the resort, $500 vat taxi ride later. Its a great course to play just don't hit your ball into the rough, you will never find it, hit striaght, the rough is very thick and not a good spot to land your ball. The fairways where well grassed and well mantained, a plesure to play there. The nice thing about white sands was the fact that you had the whole course to your self {too damn hot} the only people out there playing where us silly Aussie's. I think that its a nice course but just a bit far out of town. You can hire everything you need for a round of golf but if you can, take your own golf balls there a tad expensive.
