This is a moving experience seeing the hand carved stone marking the grave of 98 Americans on Wake killed by the Japaneses in 1943. It is touching to thing of the lone surviver who carved this stone before his own death it simply said "98 US PW, 5-10-43". These guys were capture in 23 December 1941 when Wake fell to the Japanese they were all construction workers the full story and photos are here very interesting "98 US PW, 5-10-43"
Back when we were there you could get a shuttle ride to the beach area on the inner lagoon.It was some of the cleanest and clearest water I have ever seen. And one of the novelties of the area is that the inner lagoon is free of any dangerous sharks.So if you ever get a chance to go to Wake Island (I think it is basically closed to the public at this point), be sure to get to the lagoon beach.

A: Yes, there are a few things left from WW2. There are a few 5-inch guns left, the command bunker, the airfield, some anti-aircraft guns, and some searchlights.
