Pyrat Rum

by evilprebil

I like that this small of an island has their own rum distillery. Unfortunately we were in that area on a holiday, so no tastings for us. But the rum is superb (they even sell it in PA, the most conservative state for alcohol). You can visit the factory, we called ahead, but they tend to change when they are available.

Boat Race!

by evilprebil

Commemorates the beginning of the Anguillian Revolution which took place on May 30th, 1967. Anguilla Day includes a boat race around the island. There was a lot of confusion for us as to what day it was, but we happened to still be on the island for it (Happy!). We walked out of Ripples on Sandy Ground and I say sailboats in the distance. It was definitely a cool thing. Places are closed, but people are EVERYWHERE. Look in the FAR background on these shots and see the grey outline of the sailboats. A very cool experience!

Hydroponic Farm

by evilprebil

One of the most interesting parts of this little island! The Cuisinart Resort (where we of course stayed) has a hydroponic farm. For an island that doesn't receive much rainfall and depends on St. Martin for supplies, this is an oddity. The produce was wonderful and the Farm tour with Dr. Howard Resh was extremely interesting.

Swim with the Dolphins

by evilprebil

This was a unique way to treat our wedding guests. We went to Dolphin Fantaseas and had an hour session. They were very strict about how you handled the dolphins. Most of them had developmental disabilities, some were born in captivity, interesting experience. They encourage to interact. My one friend had to hold the fish bag for a few minutes and the dolphins flocked around her! You don't have constant contact, but it's amazing to be able to swim with them.

Get Married!

by evilprebil

Seriously, most of the tourism here is either honeymoons or weddings + honeymoons. You couldn't pick a more beautiful setting. Most resorts (such as ours) have a wedding planner on staff to help you out, and all the other services you would need for a wedding are on the island as well (Florists, photographer, etc.) There were a number of other weddings there while we were there for a week (that's what everyone talks about!)

Catamaran

by evilprebil

A catamaran trip is a great way to see more of the island. We arranged ours through our resort, but there are tons of charters on the island. We went for a champagne sunset trip. It was overcast, but it was still amazing.

Beach it!

by evilprebil

These beaches are the most beautiful I've ever been too. The sand is like sugar, the water like being in a swimming pool. The waves are calm in most places, but even if they are not, you can park yourself in the shallow water.

Things to do on the Water

by Famfour

We did the catamaran trip on Chocolat and very much enjoyed the snorkeling, the company, the food and drink. We drove to Crocus Bay and bought a ride with Calvin to Little Bay for some wondrous snorkeling. We visited Shoal Bay East, which is lovely, lovely and enjoyed great food at Gwens Reggae Grill.

Fishing...of course

by michanth

Well if any have read my main page, you would see my comment on hubby and fishing....So of course I had to add this photo. You can fish both on & off shore in Anguilla. Deep Sea fishing go to Sandy Ground and ask for Dean...he took the boys out and as you can see, had a great day of fishing.

Sleeping with the Dogs

Anguilla is really a place to go if you are looking for the definition of a relaxing vacation. It's not for everyone. If you are looking for true R & R...this is the place. I knew I wanted tropical weather & clean white sandy beaches. I also knew I didnt want crazy traffic, loud bars, vendors standing over your beach chair with something to sell, jet boats screaming by the beach and well....you get the picture. If you want that type of vacation go across the water to St. Martins. It's only a 15 minute ferry ride over. Trust me, if you go over, you will only be reassured that picking Anguilla to rest your weary bones, was the right choice.
