Shoal Bay and Upper Shoal Bay

by pumarega

Shoal Bay and Upper Shoal Bay were one of the beaches I kept hearing about before I had arrived in Anguilla. I think it was a bit over-hyped.There is definitely more to do at Shoal Bay when you compare it to Meads Bay. There are bars and resturants right on the beach. The Resturant we ate at was sub-par and I can't remeber its name. Shoal Bay is unique in that there are rocky shoals near the shore and also further off in the ocean. These Shoals are a good place for little fish to hide from mean predators. I didn't go snorkling here, but I did see several people out in the ocean over the shoals with gear on.I had thought that there would be more going on at Shoal Bay than there was, but it was un-eventful.

Meads Bay.

Meads Bay was my favorite beach on the whole island. This is one of the more quiet beaches on the island. It was connected to our Hotel (The Malliouhana) so it was easy for us to get to. Our hotel also provided drinks, watersports, and chairs for us.The water at Meads bay is nice and calm with rolling waves (not crashing waves). It would not be an ideal place for surfing. Though, I did see people using the catamaran and wind-surfing.We did not have any problem with Mosquitos or insects at Meads Bay.

Day trip to St. Martin

by tlwright1414

If you like to shop you can take a ferry to St. Martin from the Blowing Point ferry docks. It's $15 US (including a departure tax) per person. Once you get over there, you'll be imediately bombarded by people trying to rent you a car. Taxi's will be expensive to get to the Dutch side. You can take a bus for $1.5 US. You'll arrive from Anguilla on the Fench side(Marigot). The 15/20 minute bus ride will take you to the Dutch side. There are nice resturants and nice shops on both sides.

Beach Hopping

by michanth

Anguilla is renowned for its beaches...Many of them. All are different and all are beautiful. The sand is like silk and the clarity of the water is like that of a perfect diamond. Some have rocky coral edges with black sea urchins lounging in the crevices. Some have calm waters to float your weary soul into bliss. While others have a pounding surf where pelicans take turns diving for their favorite fish of the day. Or you could drive to the north side of the island and hang out with some of the goats who inhabit this area. If you like boats (many made right on the island) take a drive to Sandy Ground. The colorful array of these seacrafts are worth the trip. Take your pick, even though all the beaches are public in Anguilla, you will find many times they are yours to enjoy for the day....not a soul in sight.

My suggestion is to take a day trip on a Catamaran. We used 'Chocolat' and it wasfabulous. For $80.00 USD per person (up to 12 people) we went to Prckly Pear andSandy Island and Little Bay. The price also included lunch (awesome!!!) and drinks.Captain Rawlins was very friendly and did his best to put you at ease. He gave us time in each place to go for a swim and let us determine the schedule. He has been on the sea his whole life and is happy to talk about it. (Incidentally, his wife jacquie owns 'Ripples' - a restaurant located in Sandy Ground. Amazing atmosphere and good hamburgers!)I would also suggest going to both Shoal Bay (east and west) beaches, Junks Hole beach,Sandy Point Beach, Maundays Bay beach, Rendezvous Bay beach, and on and on and on! We rented a car and just drove the island for 7 days straight! It was fun trying to find the beaches and what seemed like undiscovered...

Best beach and probably if the top 3 best Carribean beaches : Shoal Bay in northern coast of Anguilla. Shoal Bay is what everyone is dreaming about !!!! Long white sand uncrowded beach, with shallow crystal clear water, plenty of underwater life for snorkellers, and some nice bars along the beach. But nothing like 'crowded' and 'noisy'. If you see Shoal Bay, you will be sad to leave it !!!Other nice beaches are in the Western end of the island, next to La Sirena resort (more difficult to access and much smaller). 2 unique qualities :1) The extremely pure and clear waters all around the island (mainly North Coast)2) The local people : so nice and great !!!! With some English old-fashioned traditions (Anguilla being still a United Kingdom colony)No crime...no danger...nothing to worry about except maybe sunbursts !!!

Shoal Bay

by meirs

Shoal Bay is a long soft white sand beach with clear turquoise water. Bring your snorkel gear because just off the shore are many coral reef with tropical sea life. Bring a hat and some sunscreen because you won't find much shade at the beach.

relax

by shohman

Isn't that why people come here? Just relax, stare at the sea, read a book, or lay there doing nothing at all.

chairs and umbrella's

by shohman

On most beaches, you can rent two chairs and an umbrella for about $10 US. Do it. The suncan wear you out quick, so it's good to have some protection.
