The people are extremely friendly. Make sure you eat a Bun and Cheese. Also hit Jackson's in St. Johns for simple west indian food. Be sure to visit St. John's Cathedral also. The south part of the island is more rural and covered with green peaks. The beaches are truly amazing. Every beach on the west coast is gorgeous. Half moon bay on the east coast is awesome. Also, be sure to find some homemade ginger beer. The locals make it at the smaller restuarants and side road stands. On the southeast side of the island, you definitely can see the island of Monserret with its volcano. Also St. Kitts is visible. Be sure to eat some fruit on the south side of the island, such as pineapples, grapefruits, oranges, mangos, figs (small fat bananas) and breadfruit. Enjoy!

Rain! by Rachael71 We visited Antigua in September, at the tail end of the rainy season. For most of the time we enjoyed fabulous sunshine, so be sure to pack plenty of a high factor sun lotion. However, as you can see from the photo, we did see a few downpours! These were very heavy, but never lasted more than about 10 minutes, and the sun was soon out again. Leave a Comment

Welcome! by Galesjam Telephones: Calling internationally is easy from Antigua and Barbuda. Most hotels offer Direct calling service, or can connect you with an operator. Electricity: Part of the island is 110 volts, the remainder is 220 volts. Most hotels have both voltages. Appropriate Attire: Informal, but conservative. Beach attire is appropriate for the beach but not town, shops or restaurants. Some hotels and restaurants stipulate jacket and tie for men in the evening. Time Zone: Atlantic Standard Time, one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time and the same as Eastern Daylight Time. GMT -4. Currency/Money: Official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar which is fixed to the US dollar, travelers checks and major credit cards are welcome everywhere. Medical Facilities: There are several general practitioners and specialists on the island, a hospital and a private clinic. No vaccinations are required unless the visitor is arriving from an endemic area. Recompression chambers are available by air ambulance at nearby Saba and in St. Thomas. Pharmaceutical services are widely available. Passports & Immigration: U.S. , Canadian and U.K. nationals require proof of citizenship--a valid passport, original or certified birth certificate. U.S. residents and others should contact the nearest tourist office for entry requirements. Shopping Hours: Monday thru Saturday 8:00am to noon and 1:00pm-5:00pm. Personal Safety: Antigua & Barbuda are relatively crime free, but exercise normal precautions; i.e. don't leave valuables unattended in rental cars or on the beach. Leave a Comment

Blue Water Motel by Simonneeddy Visit the Blue Water and the Half Moon Hotels. We also visited HALF MOON BAy where there was a huge housing development being built by OKEEFE's. What a great view from the top of the cliff just before we arrived there. I had so ,many great pictures but lost them over the years. Leave a Comment

by kathycollins Shore excursions cost a lot of money - for a small fraction of the cost you can catch a cab ride...Either pick a beach at random, or ask your cabbie for a good place to swim/sun/snorkel/sail/fish...... Leave a Comment
