I often look at the various license plates and see if I can figure out what the different colors and designations mean. In the 1980s, taxis could be recognised by their 'HA' or 'HB' number-plates. Photo 3 of the old plates). Now, they have a TX designation. They are not metered, but carry a rate card, which you can view before starting your journey. They are also a good way of getting a mini-guided tour. Many of the taxis are actually mini-vans (photo 5)
A commercial vehicle now has a C designation (photo 2).
Rental cars have always had an R designation (whether old or new type plates - picture 4 for the new ones). Maybe this is a way of warning residents that there is a person driving who may not always remember that they drive on the left in Antigua. Most of Antigua's car rental companies have an office within or near to VC Bird International Airport, while some also have agents located within the hotels. To drive in Antigua, you must purchase a temporary drivers' license. These can be obtained for around US$20 by presenting a full drivers' license at the local police station or car rental agency.

St. Johns on Antigua is a tourist supported community. There is a lot of history here. See my section on History under Antigua and Barbuda.
