Island B-Hive Sports Bar & Restaurant: Cold Beers and Free Wi-fi

    by cjg1 Updated Nov 7, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Island B-Hive was exactly what we needed after an afternoon of shopping... a cold beer and free Wi-fi (the Wi-fi on the ship is slow and ridiculously priced even for a small amount of time). Apparently the free Wi-fi is a huge draw here since the place was packed with people on their lap tops and phones surfing the web.

We were fortunate to find two seats at the bar which was jamming. We ordered two Wadadli; which is the local beer of the island. The special of the day was two Wadadli for $5; which is a good price considering the free Wi-fi. The only catch is you have to wait for the bartender to put in the password for the internet on your phone/computer; which can take some time (island time after all).

Despite the crowd we had a fun time people watching and enjoying some ice cold beer.

The Beach: Great Food On At Beach

by Dougy Updated Apr 4, 2011

The beach restaurant & bar is situated between the Antigua Village resort and the Sandels resort. The restaurant has about 8 tables actually on the beach and about 25 more inside. Some of the inside tables are on a covered terrace. The beach is open 7 days a week for breakfast lunch and dinner.

The menu has a mixture of International, Italian, caribbean and Asian dishes.
One word of warning if you intend to sit outside after dark bring some insect repellent as there are loads of sand flys.

Favorite Dish: Every thing I ordered there was excellent.

The Beach - Rex Halcyon Cove: Great Food - Great Location

by CADspark Updated Apr 4, 2011

What a great location for a great restaurant. This place is ideally situated right on the the beach a short stroll away from Sandals Hotel.

The food is reasonably priced with a good variety.

Favorite Dish: There is so much to mention. If you are staying for a while in Antigua keep going back to The Beach and try everything :-)

Copper & Lumber Store: Dining Options at Nelson's Dockyard

by grandmaR Written May 18, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We had a free rum (or in my case juice) drink in the Copper & Lumber Store as a part of the ship tour.

There are two restaurants in the Copper & Lumber Store Hotel. They are

The Wardroom Restaurant which has an international cuisine mixed with all the flavors of the Caribbean.

The Mainbrace Pub which is open for breakfast from 8am each morning and serving lunch daily(and dinner during March and April). The menu is traditional British pub with a Caribbean flavour.

There are several other excellent restaurants are nearby, including The Admiral's Inn, HQ, The Inn at English Harbour, Abracadabra, The Galley Bar & Restaurant, Calabash, Le Cap Horn, Trappas, The Gallery, Club Havanna, The Pizza Oven, Catherine's Cafe, Last Lemming, The Spotlight Bar, Mad Mongoose and Famous Mauro's Pizza.

  • Shawarma King: shawarma

    by jones9996 Written Jan 24, 2008

The restaurant does not look the greatest and if it wasn't for my brother living on the island I would have never eaten there. The owners are Syrian and speak very little english but are very hospitable, very friendly. They like sports and are always watching the little tv in the shop. Sat around and watched sports, relaxed and drank beer.

Favorite Dish: Only ate the shawarma. Recommend not ordering the HOT shawarma even if you like hot foods. But if you ask for a in the middle he knows what to make.

ABRACADABRA: Great food and special evenings

by PALLINA Written Jan 22, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

They used to define themselves an Italian restaurant; actually they are not Italians, the only thing they have of Italian is a (quite bad) translation of the menu BUT the quality of the food is really good, the ambiance is very amusing and, after dinner, they are used to organize every kind of stuff. Please note that, if you are looking for something very romantic, it can be very noisy (better the other restaurant suggested by me, the Harmony Hall). Strongly raccomended by group of friends eager to have fun.

Favorite Dish: I cannot remember, it was Jan 2005

Harmony Hall: Breathtaking view and excellent food

by PALLINA Written Jan 22, 2008

This is a restaurant in an old mill and its a fine arts gallery. The scenery is the best that a Carrabean island can offer, moreover this place, run by two nice Italian guys, is extraordinary for the quality and for the service. They import a lot of things from Italy, except for the fish, I would say....Try it, it's not cheap and the sorrounding is worthseeing too!

    Favorite Dish: Everything of fish

The only place to eat & drink on this beach, but that didn't stop it being good! It was busy with a lively atmosphere. The service was very friendly & all the food we had was good. Inexpensive too.

Favorite Dish: We just had sandwiches, light snacks & cold drinks but we were all very satisfied with our choices.

  • ... a different kind of restuarant: Prickly Pear

    by q8ian Written Jul 13, 2005

Prickly Pear island is about half a mile off the coast between Hodges Bay and Jabbawok Beach - so you need a boat to get there. You can get this from Miguels Adventures at Hodges Bay or take your own. The channel in is not easy and there are lots of coral heads though. The "restuarant" is a shack on the tiny beach built from driftwood and second hand timber but totally in keeping with its surroundings. The foods great and the cold beer just keeps coming. Your own desert island.
Its a day trip really and the snorklings great - lots of fish and if you look hard turtles are there too.

Favorite Dish: Curried conch - Antiguan

  • BJ's: BJ's - right on the beach

    by q8ian Written Jul 13, 2005

A totally open shack with numerous extensions right on Crab Hill Beach. Eat your lobster and drink you beer whilst watching Montserrat erupt (which it did whilst we watched). Very quiet spot on the west side of Antigua with great ambiance and good food - the service is a little slow but this is because its all cooked to order and the barmaid and cook are one and the same!

Favorite Dish: Grilled lobster - must have!

  • Le Bistro, Hodges Bay: Le Bistro - Very good but............

    by q8ian Written Jul 13, 2005

Suberb food, great wine, good service, good surroundings (though air-conditioning would have helped take the sting off the humidity) .... followed by an enormous, but not totally unexpected bill (like US$400 for four).

If you are looking for somewhere for a special dinner this is it.

    Favorite Dish: It all good.

The Home Restaurant: The Home Restaurant

by Galesjam Written Jun 2, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Home Restaurant is located on the outskirts of St John's in a quiet neighbourhood. It is the childhood home of the Antiguan chef Carl Thomas that has been lovingly converted into a fine restaurant.

There is a good variety to choose off the menu as well as some weekly specials. All the dishes are made with fresh, local ingredients that help to give a richer and tastier meal. Along with the cosy and friendly atmosphere it makes this a great place for a meal.

Favorite Dish: The fishcake was very nice, but my favourite was the Chicken Breast with Fresh Pineapple & Mango in a Coconut Curry Sauce. It was excellent, nice and tasty without being too spicy hot.

Home Restaurant: Restaurants in St Johns

by CADspark Updated Aug 14, 2004

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Home Restaurant - what a perfect name for this place.

Located 2 minutes out of the main hustle and bustle of St Johns this restaurant is located in a quiet little back street. Exit out of St Johns towards Rex Halcycon Cove and keep your eyes peeled for a tiny direction sign on your left hand side (its really easy to miss)

My personal favourite was the Coconut Chicken and Shrimp but I dont think you could go wrong with anything here.

Excellent ambiance together with excellent food has got to make this place one of the best restaurants on the island.

Favorite Dish: Coconut Chicken & Shrimp
