Beaches

by hmoitta

The most important activity in Aruba is the beach and there are of all kinds and styles: Palm Beach the tourist beach, Eagle Beach the jetski beach, Baby Beach the snorkel beach, Malmok the windsurf beach, Dos Playa the desert beach, the Natural Bridge beach and many other we hadn't time to go.

Papiamento - local language

by nikolka

learn couple of words in local language at http://www.narin.com/papiamentu/ Easy - no grammar, just vocabulary collected from many other languages. Just a few words will open door to many otherwise forbidden places ... like people's hearts.

Drink a lot!

by nikolka

have a fruit coctail! The best place (if we do not count some restaurants) is in the harbour, in the very center of Orangestad. Go to the market and find the one place where they offer fresh fruit cocktails - to be made in front of your eyes, made from those kinds of fruits you choose. Very refreshing, especially after endless shopping or in the middle of the day.

Talk to everyone!! Meet the people who live there - I am still friends with them and some have come to the States to visit!! Learning to dance the Merengue with Giovanni et al at the local nightclub, just hanging out with all my new friends and learning all about their island home.

Get to know the locals

Into town, walking about the shops and outdoor cafe's and through the residential areas where people stop to talk to you and share their own favorite things about Aruba, their home. My Arubean friends. Years after my visit to Aruba, we hosted World Cup Soccer in Detroit. My friend Giovanni called me, and he and his friends came up to see the soccer game and it was SO wonderful to see them again!!!

Our visit was very short, so we hired a driver at the dock and spent the day having him show us around the Island. His name was Elvis, so how could we go wrong! The Natural Bridge is very interesting as well as a hill where you can view most fo the Island. Great Shopping as well!

Jolly Pirate Ship

by dennings72002

If you are young and enjoy snorkeling, go on the Jolly Pirate Ship. A day full of snorkeling, drinking, music, and a delicious BBQ, how can you beat that? It was a lot of fun and everything was included with the price! We will definitely go back! Our fondest memory was dining while watching the sun set. The sunsets in Aruba were absolutely amazing. The pictures we took when the sun set looked like a backdrop. PICTURES ARE COMING.

...at Aruba`s Casinos and have some FUN -I DID- and I even managed to win back my 50$! You will have the choice between baccarat, roulette, blackjack and slot machines beckon from the casinos of these Aruban high-rise hotels: the Allegro Aruba, Hyatt Regency, Wyndham Aruba, Aruba Grand, Seaport Casino, Holiday Inn, the Sonesta Hotel, Beach Club & Casino, Radisson, Alhambra Casino, Marriott and the Royal Cabana. Aruba`s best known casino is the Alhambra Bazaar, across from the Aruba Beach Resort. And most of all have FUN !

Natural Bridge

...Caribbean`s highest and most dramatic coral structure and the largest of eight on the island, which was carved over the centuries by the pounding sea and forms an arch measuring over 100 feet long standing 23 feet above sea level. Can you see the people on top of the bridge?

ORANJESTAD - The capital city...

by LysDor

...named after the Dutch Royal House of Orange, has been the island's charming capital since 1797. Dutch and Spanish architecture co-mingle in Oranjestad, as did the town's early settlers.Located on Aruba's picturesque southern coast, Oranjestad is the historical Dutch capital city where the tall multicolored houses of Wilheminastraat combine carved wooded doors and traditional Dutch tiles with airy open galleries and sloping, Aruban-style roofs. Along the wharf, merchants come to sell fresh fish and produce right off the boats every morning. All of Aruba’s government buildings and main offices are located in the capital city.
