SPANISH EXPLORERS arrived...

by LysDor

...in Aruba in the 15th century and eventually colonized the island. But in 1636 the Dutch took over, and Aruba has remained Dutch ever since. In 1986, Aruba became a separate entity within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, while prior to 1986, Aruba was a member of the Netherland Antilles.

Snorkel at Baby Beach. At that...

by MRIOUX

Snorkel at Baby Beach. At that time, it was the first time I had ever snorkeled in the Caribbean. The water was very clear, warm and calm. I will never forget the experience. Was the time I went shopping and apparently forgot or dropped my wallet in the store. I never even realized that I dropped my wallet until the shop owner approached me on the street to return my wallet. I really was surprised that all my money was still intact. If I had lost my wallet I would have lost all my money and important documents. Really putting a damper on things, if you know what I mean. Since then I’ve learn to be more diligent. At any rate- I was really impressed with the honesty of the locals.

Go see the Natural bridge ....

by Bob_F

Go see the Natural bridge . It's a cliff that the water has tunneled through . It's appros 50' high and maybe 100' long or more . Snorkle at Baby Beach it's like swimming in your home aquarium . I'm a beginnerand I was very comfortable there . Aruba is only 19 mi. long . Rent a four wheel drive tracker , ($60 day ), And see the whole island ! Exploring the windward side of the island . It's like another world . Very wild , huge waves . Winning $$$in the casinos was another high point as I like to play blackjack . I won about $500 while I was there

Rent a car and go to the dessert part. It's a very nice experience, specially when you are tired of going to the beach.... People is great ! They live and die for the tourist and they are always happy. I have the pleasure to make a hotel tour with the Aruba Tourism Authority and I only found smiles and very nice attitude

Go to the fish market in...

by tembel

Go to the fish market in Oranjestad. Get some red snapper, bargain with the fishermen, take the well-fought-for fish back to your place, cook it and eat it as fast as possible. I am no fish lover, but that's deeeeeee-licious. We rented a boat to go around the island. I think we may have intended to fish, or maybe we were just sighseeing... Anyway, the intent of the trip is a mystery now, because it turned out two of the four people that came along (other than me) got sea sick. Have you ever seen a person turn shades of purple and green in front of your eyes? Well, if you have, please be quick on your feet -- along with color changes comes projectile vomiting. Don't say I didn't warn you...

Depending on what your...

by BusTraveler

Depending on what your interests are here are my recommendations on what you must do in Aruba:High Energy: Kukoo Kunuku Party Bus - Enjoy a bar-hopping tour only a whino could dream of. Includes dinner, champagne toast at sunset and your first drink at every bar stop. You'll have to wear a name tag with your hotel and room number on it so they know where to 'pour' you out when your done.Mid Energy: Blue Melody Sunset Tour - A nice sunset sail including snorkeling and a light snack. The owners are Dutch natives and very friendly! No Energy: Flying Fishbones - Make sure you get reservations for this restaurant whose main attraction is the sunset. Oh yeah, the food isn't too bad either. Yes, Aruba has the beautiful weather and friendly people but it's the unadorned island culture that keeps you coming back. You are welcome anywhere you travel on the island (of course don't leave your common...

by sherryejones

When in Aruba it is a must to walk on the beaches! They are beautiful and so relaxing. There are also bars all along them to stop and have a 'beverage' if you get thirsty or want something to eat. They are so friendly there. We were just in Aruba for three weeks in January and I didn't want to come home. The weather is so perfect there. The temperature is always around 86' but with the trade winds it doeesn't feel that hot. One of the best times we have while there is going on the Kuku-Ka-Nu-Ku bus tour. We always have a fun time and meet some wonder friends from it!

Kibrahacha tree in full blossemThis picture is taken in the National Park Arikok in august2001. Normally they blossom in april or may. When after months the short rainy season fall, this tree develops in some days a full yellow blossom. After a week the flowers are gone and the tree starts to grow leaves. This kind of strategy is especially adopted to the drought climate. The tree can develop very fast seeds which can still grow in the same wet period. The name KIBRAHACHA comes from the wordsin papiamentu: KIBRA (to brake) and HACHA(ax). The wood is so hard...it can brake your ax.

by Jefvdw

Hey babe, take a walk on the WILD SIDE.I try as much as possible to show other than casual things of Aruba on this plage. Maybe because your favorite flat sandy beaches are only my shortcut to go snorkeling. We have them and we maybe get the best, but Aruba is a lot, lot more. The NORTH COAST as we call it is a unique biosphere and happely a part is now preserved in Arikok Park.Don't do this on a one-day-safari-jeep-tour-so-you-seen-all. The line of jeeps is longer than this word...Take your time, I stroll already 9 years on this costline and I am still amazed.
