Packing List

This trip was a good lesson to myself on what I forgot. I always take (but forgot this trip) plastic cutlery, a corkscrew and bottle opener (thanks Marcelle!) for items purchased at the grocery store. Instead of always going to restaurants I prefer to sometimes try local foods, beer & wine found at supermarkets. We frequented Kong Hing supermarket which carried large rounds of cheese (lots of gouda), pate, and different items founds in the Netherlands.

Any lugage is best.. Aruba is overal a casual island. You dress casual to go shopping. Topless is not allowed on the beaches of the island, however there is a legal nude beach on the Sonesta Island. Europeans do go topless at times infront of the Holiday Inn Hotel on the beach of Bucuti Resort. At some restaurants its better you dressed elegantly such as Le Escale and Chez Mathilde, however most are casual.. There is nothing to be worried about when visiting Aruba. Malaria, Dengue and other mosquito transmitted viruses are rare in Aruba. Aruba has great medical facilities, renting an oxigen tank while in Aruba is also possible to arrange. In addition water is very safe to drink from the tap, as Aruba is known to have the best drinking water in the world. Your camera may be the most important thing to bring, there are many picture perfect sites on the island. There is no need to bring...

Hiking shoes for a trip around the island. Some areas can be rugged when getting out of the car to walk around. Ladies, you may need a hat or scarf to keep your hair in place. The trade winds are constant.

I managed to take a regular sized suitcase. Aruba is the same temprature all year: 79-81 degrees farenheit. Take some comfortable summer clothes and a one or two pairs of light pants and long sleeve shirts for the nights. Bring a lot of suntan lotion....you're only going to be 900 miles from the equator! You might want to bring some aqua socks for when you go swimming, but they're not needed. Obviously, you're going to want some swim suits! You can't miss the water! I took a point and click camera with a zoom function. I wish I would have taken my nice manual focus camera with the swappable lenses for the sunsets, but I got some nice shots with the point and click! Most hotels provide beach towels, and some all inclusive places offer free rentals on snorkling gear and canoe rentals. Bring a couple of good books! They make for some really nice relaxation!

Sun protection!

by rdhaliwal

Sun Protection is a MUST in Aruba if you are sunbathing. It sounds very obvious, but the heat can be incredibly intense and you need to be careful.I'm dark skinned but I was still sun burnt.

If you plan to explore the island take good pair of sneakers so your feet do not get cut up on the rocks.
