Eagle Beach by public bus

by sunloverinatlanta

We went to Eagle Beach via public bus. There is a bus terminal right near the cruise ship port. It was less than $2 per person if I remember correctly. If you want to go to a good beach for the day and avoid the high cost excursions, I highly recommend this. There were bars on the beach and restaurants across the street from the beach. Most buildings were on the opposite side of the road from the beach. This left a much less crowded and more enjoyable beach area. This is very unlike Palm Beach where the hotels/resorts are right on the beach and buildings are crowded together. However, if you are wanting to snorkel, there are tour operators on Palm Beach where you can take a boat out a couple hundred yards to a shipwreck. The Beginning Scuba Diving excursion from Holland America was very professional unlike the one on St. Thomas. It was right next to the Riu hotel.

Rancho Notorious- Horseback riding in Aruba

by nyonnetti

Wow, this was an amazing excursion we took while in Aruba. We took a horseback ride through the desert island over a rocky hill and along the coast. The views were amazing and the whole tour was just so awesome. The staff at the ranch are great- they took their time to allow us to enjoy the views and also did well to ensure our safety with the horses. My husband and I have no experience with horseback riding- the ranch accommodates people at all levels.

Palm Beach- amazing water

by nyonnetti

If you want to see a beautiful beach then take a taxi to Palm Beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches and has the most beautiful water. There is a company there that will rent out umbrellas ($20) and chairs ($6) and floats, etc. Along the beach are places where you can rent a jet ski, go on a sail boat ride, etc.

California Lighthouse

by Ahidyn

The California lighthouse is in the area known as "Hudishibana," near the island's northwestern area. The lighthouse is named for the U.S ship - the California - which sunk 1910. The lighthouse has become one of Aruba's must to see, and offers a perfect view of the island's western coastline of sandy beaches, white sand and rocky coral shorelines.

Alto Vista Chapel

by Ahidyn

It was the first church established in the whole of the Caribbean. Also called the Pilgrim's church, it was constructed by Spanish missionaries in 1750 and to this day the Chapel of Alto Vista continues to conduct services. (Concret benchs are out side the church...)

Casibari...Rock Formations

by Ahidyn

The Casibari Rocks are huge diorite boulders found at the center of Aruba. Genarally this place is visited for its spectacular view from the top of the largest boulder. Those boulders form crevices and overhangs, small tectonic caves. Some years ago the Government of Aruba created walking trails and steps through the boulders. The main path to the top has steps and handrails, tunnels, narrow steps, and ledges

No more Natural Bridge

by Ahidyn

The 100-foot-long natural arch, which loomed 25 feet above sea level, was an awesome spectacle that existed for thousands of years, but disappeared in just one evening, early in September 2005. The same wave action, which carved out the limestone structure, was the cause of its unfortunate demise. This is a very popular spot, and there is a smaller bridge (Baby Bridge) that is starting to form.

Cat trip around the coast!

by crazyman2

There are loads of boat trips ---this one came as part of our day-long excursion. The 'Pelican' took us from oranjestad around the coast to Palm Beach. It was an interseting trip which took about 70-80 minutes. The captain told us about the sites, the sights and the histories plus anything else that we were curious about. For those of us who wanted to enjoy the sea experience there was the webbing between the hulls. Of course, there was a free bar offering hints of alcohol in the rum punches etc.Would I do this excursion again? YES!

Chapel of Alto Vista

by crazyman2

This is a delightful, rather unique experience. On the road, as you approach, are crosses which are used in the annual 'Stations of the Cross' procession.Arriving at the chapel you notice the 'whiteness' of the place ---a mix of the ground, the light and the external walls. Around the outside of the chapel there is a stone wall and between the wall and the chapel door there are white stone(?) benches which are used by the parishoners for many of the services. This building was built in 1952 on the site of the 1750 chapel. Inside it is fairly sparse ---compaired with the chapels on some of the other Caribbean islands. There are services held here but I don't have any details ---except that our guide mentioned an early and late service on Sundays.Outside the stone wall, on the seaward side, there is a stone maze which is called the Labyrinth of Peace.Would I visit here again? Yes!
