4 Wheel rental for a mountain ride

by Kurtiemon

Renting a car for the whole week is unnecessary unless you like to get where you are going quickly. Buses can take you up and down the strip as well as to downtown. I would recommend renting a 4-wheel vehicle and venture to the opposite side of the island. Not only is it unbelieveable but you feel like your either in the red sandy mountains of South America or on the shores of Hawaii. To get to the Natural Pool or Bridge you'll need an off-road vehicle anyway.

Bus Vs. Taxi

by dennings72002

Regarding the Bus Vs. Taxi, the bus is a cheaper alternative to a taxi, but if you're in a hurry, take a taxi. The buses come whenever they want, they aren't on a schedule. Most of the time, you only pay $7 for a taxi one way, about a five to ten minute drive from the highrises to the city. You can also split a taxi. Most of the time, we had other people from our resort leaving at the same time because they were going where we were. A $7 taxi split four ways isn't bad. You pay $1.25 for the bus that you have to wait ten minutes or more for, and most likely more. You can also rent a car, but considering the amount of time we spent on a bus or in a taxi, it really isn't worth it. We spent 10 minutes a day in a bus or taxi, or maybe less. But if you want to take a leisurely trip around the island, then rent a car. The nice thing is that you have many choices to fit your budget.

By plane although some cruises stop there.Taxis are always available and they are afforable. However, if you stay in a Beach Hotel at the Hotel zone, you can move easily (and very cheap) by bus. For other activities, almost always they include guest pick up and drop off from main hotels.

You can only get to Aruba by flying there. It can be a long day of flying depending on where you are coming from but it is well worth it. It is best to get on a charter flight to save on the airfare. We don't have that option. We either walk or take a taxi to anywhere we want to go. The taxi's either cost $6.00 for short drives or $15.00 for long drives. Depending on where you stay you can walk to a lot of places. It is very safe on the island and we have no fear of walking late at night!!! You do need a jeep to get to the north side of the island and visit those sights.

By Plane, there is no other wayThe best way is to rent a car. A 4wheel drive is the best, but it isn't necessary. When you are staying in a hotel and you want to go to Oranjestad, you can also take the bus, it's cheaper and you don't need a parkingplace. When I was there we hitch-hiked al the time, it's an option, because the most people on Aruba are very friendly, but I think you feel saver when you know the island well before you go hitch-hiking.

We arrived in Aruba on a direct flight from Miami on American Airlines.Aruba has excellent public transportation. There is a bus that runs up and down the main strip (LG Smith Blvd) past all the hotels and timeshares and back to Oranjestaad. Buy the roundtrip ticket, it costs less. Definitely spend the money and a rent a car for a least a day so you can explore the other side of the island. Guide books will tell you to get a 4-wheel drive vehicle, but we were fine with our two-door Toyota Yaris.

by Arubasun.

Aruba's airport has just completed a multi million dollar expansion and renovation process. The airport now features loading bridges and is capable of handling 2.1 million passengers a year up from 1.2 million prior to the expansion. Aruba's airport is said to be the most beautiful airport in the Caribbean. U.S. immigration and U.S. customs are also present at the airport making thus all flights heading towards the U.S. from Aruba, as domestic flights and not international. So Americans that do leave Aruba to head back home need not pass through U.S. immigration and Customs back home as they have already done that in Aruba, they only thing that they need to do is to pick up their lugage. This is also applicable for visitors of other countries that are leaving Aruba heading to the U.S.The above picture is a car plate, every car plate on the island has the logo 'Aruba One Happy Island'....

by sdhc

Definitely rent a car & stop off the beaten path for some snorkeling at places where the locals go. We never worried about safety - it appeared very safe there, mostly we think because there seems to be a middle class. Not too many poor people on this island (and I think we covered it all!).
