A beautiful place

by clbobman

You can take a local bus to anywhere on the island for a little over $US1. There are two bus companies one does the west side of the island. These are fun and have VERY loud reggae music. The other (red buses ) have a more official looking terminal and go to the far eastern side of the island where some beautiful beaches are. Watch out for spines swimming here though. Always check with locals where you are swimming if there is no one around as these things hurt. There are strong rips at some of the surf beaches like Bathsheba. My doctor friend had to be saved by surfers here as the rip is a very very powerful diagonal type. He did not recognise it and was gone in minutes. He would have almost certainly died if not for the surfers as he had no knowledge of such conditions. So be careful if the swell is running here. This is a world class surf beach, not really a place for swimmingThis is...

Crane Beach

by joanj

There are many beaches to choose from in Barbados, Crane Beach is on the South East Coast.Crane Beach Hotel is perched on top of a cliff and affords panoramic views. There is an entrance`fee for non residents redeemable at the bar or restaurant). There is a staircase leading down to the beach (enlarge the photograph to see it). The sand is pink, and the beach has excellent waves for body boards.

Rockley Beach

by joanj

I keep referring to Rockley Beach area at Hastings, well this is the beach that we mostly stay on.They have revamped the car park and added vendors to this beach area, and have a new entrance sign as shown in the photograph. This is a lovely beach on the south coast area, not as calm as the west coast, but with a little surf, but not too much to be able to swim in.There is a man made reef just a little way offshore, (not too far as I was taken to it as my first snorkelling experience) and there is a lifeguard tower with several guards on duty to give assistance when necessary.Ask them about the rip current, and sea conditions, especially if you are going out with boogie boards etc. Be safe !

Thirsty on the Beach !

by joanj

If you are on Rockley Beach, Hastings , and need a refreshing drink as well as food, then look out for the "The Rock Beach Bar"There are a few chairs and picnic type tables around the drinks and eateries, so chill out with a cool "Banks" !

Hungry on the beach !

by joanj

I did not know whether to put this under Restaurant tip or not, as it is strictly not a restaurant, but just a place to get a snack on the beach. So here goes :-If you are in the parish of Christchurch and on Rockley Beach, and you want a quick snack, local beer, or soft drink, then check out Chicken George. In the car park area there are little huts selling food, drink, clothing, jewellery, beach items ets. Go check them out.photo joanj I miss absolutely everything about Barbados when I am away, even the bad roads, paths etc.,

My favourite place on the island

by joanj

My very favourite place is Bathsheba, the view from the steep road gives a fantastic view of the area, where you can picnic, watch the surfers, (not a safe bathing place and no lifeguards), the volcanic rocks are fantastic. Visit Andromeda gardens whilst you are there, it is on the approach road, down the hill a little, and there is a small restaurant (Bonito's) which has a wonderful lookout to the ocean. The bus ride from Bridgetown takes a while, but you do see the local townships, and local people. I have too many memories to choose one, but I always shed tears when I leave the island, especially my friends who live there, I miss them from year to year. Barbadosis second home to me.

Money

by luke850

Getting money out in Barbados is extremely easy. You can take money out of your credit card at a number of large banks on the island, and use it in some hotels and restaurants. However, many places charge a little for this service, but it isn't much.

The Water Is Good!

by luke850

The water in Barbados is clean and healthy, and therefore makes buying over priced bottled water a waste of time. The only tip i would give is to fill up a jug with the tap water and put it in your fridge, if you have one in your room. This is because the water can be a bit warm when it comes straight from the tap.
