Rum in the Sun

by SabrinaSummerville

Our hotel, the Tamarind Cove, had a guest cocktail party which was actually a free rum party for all the guests. They served delicious rum cocktails in rainbow colours and we drank as many as they handed us.Oooh, tons of fun but a big big mistake. The cocktails were so pretty and tastey that we didn't realise they are sweetened with raw cane sugar syrup. I spent three full days in bed recovering, as did my ex.OK, right, I'm blaming the sugar syrup and not the alcohol - but honestly, I was as sick as can be. Entirely my own fault, of course, and not at all the hotel's as they just put that delightful temptation in our way. Dress smartly, it's a cocktail party - but remember, if you're going to indulge the way we did, pack your most comfy old PJ's for the recovery days :-)

McBride's: Irish Pub and Cookhouse

by stiab3

An Irish Pub in Barbados. Name that doesn't have an Irish Pub.McBrides is decorated with throughout with genuine memorabilia such as stained glass, photos of old Dublin and liquor barrels. By day, it even serves some fairly traditional pub grub.At night there are various activities and the atmosphere becomes more like a nightclub and, in my opinion, the places doesn't feel very Irish then. But it's still a lively and happening place.Wednesday Nights are reggae nights and the band Third Stone entertains. I thought this band was great and they play some good old-school reggae.Sunday Nights is probably best known for the 'shake ya ass' competition. Women shake their asses (and other bits) for a chance to win $200 of free drinks. This competition is popular with tourist and local girls alike. In my ever so humble opinion, the competition is somewhat degrading. The things people do for money...

Harbour Lights: Harbour Lights

by stiab3

Harbour Lights is an open-air beach-front night club. It offers some of Barbados’ best nightlife with a distinct Caribbean atmosphere. It appeals to both locals and visitors alike. So whether you want to dance to some of the best club music around … or just “lime” by the bar on the free drink nights – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You are guaranteed a great time at Harbour Lights!Sundays, beach party nights are also a good 'lime' . $1 drinks from 5pm and it's very casual dress- you can wear shorts. On fridays, the dress code is stricter and you can't wear hats or any head coverings.FREE Drinks! Rum, Gin, Vodka, Rum Punch, Beer, Soft Drinks and Juices, all included with cover, great value for your money! Very casual most nights - jeans and tshirts are the order of the day.Sunday tends to be more casual as the club opens and closes earlier. You can wear shorts and flipflops.Fridays are...

St. Lawrance Gap: Something for everybody

by lostinparadies

There is something for everybody here. Bars, restaurants, live music. Most bars have a happy hour. So,if you just walk around and look at the signs when the happy hour is, you can have a very inexpensive night out. Causual

General Tip: Where are all the happening crowds?

by ExpertShopper

This is not a tip about a specific place, rather than a general tip about where to go and when. very night of the week, there are 'special nights' or 'offer nights' where you pay for entry and then get drinks for free all night (sometimes this applies only to ladies). As a rule this is where everyone is.So if you like to be with the happening crowd (especially if you go during the low season) or if you prefer a quiet drink and a chat with friends, then make sure you find out which venues are doing special nights. Little vest tops and skirts for the girls and jeans and a smart shirt or T shirt for the boys.

The Mews: Stop Number 2!

by dbeatty

This was our 2nd stop of our pub crawl. The bar is dark and full of ambiance and downloaded music. We perused their dinner menu and it looked great. We probably would have come back to eat if we were staying longer. The restaurant appeared to be upstairs and down/outside. It was a warm night and although they appeared to have an air conditioner, they were blowing a fan instead. Good place for a drink though! This was also the nicest place on 1st and 2nd street that we saw. I would classify this place as stylishly, nice casual. They said shorts for men were okay but it looked a little fancier than that to me.

Ragamuffins: Talked Inside!

by dbeatty

Our 3rd stop on our pub crawl. Although it's really a restaurant, there's a sitting area out on the porch to catch a breeze and have a drink. We were approached by the owner as we were walking by, and coaxed into coming in and at least having a drink. It's a little house of a dining room with a bar. Painted in a hippy kind of way, casual. We were told the owner goes out everyday to buy fresh seafood himself and serves West Indian flare cuisine. Can't recommend the food cause we only had a drink, but I would have gone back, if we had the time. Oh, and they have music. Casual

Groots: Is it Cocktail Hour?

by dbeatty

This quaint place appears just be an unpretentious, friendly, little bar when you walk in, but there actually is a restaurant attached. There is stool seating all the way around the small square bar. The wooden walls have artistic graffiti all over them. The bartendress (sp?) was very friendly and the owner was on site. Just stopped for drinks though! It was a little warm inside, no a/c (like everywhere else!). Casual

Bar Hopping in Worthing

by Hewer

If you're more into the pub scene than the club scene and you want to check out a few local haunts, then you might like Worthing. There are quite a few neat little bars along the main road as you go through this district. In our case, we started at the western (Bridgetown) end near Blue Orchids Hotel and ended up in the club district at St. Lawrence Gap (half a dozen pubs and about four hours later ;-)I wrote about a few of the bars individually on my Worthing page. None at all in some of the places, a few require no sleeveless shirts.

Sandy Lane: Upmarket entertainment

by grets

Some nights we would wander down the coast to Sandy Lane, a very upmarket hotel which would provide nightly entertainment for their guests. Anyone was welcome to have a drink and enjoy the performances!
