Localy made red-polca-dots, for FREE :) by ruffen Either you get bitten (like me) or you don't (like my traveling companion). We did NOT use anti-mosquito-something... Only got the very very red marks during the first nights. I never saw nor heard the little red-spot-makers. The red spots looked UGLY but didn't hurt :) For me - over 20 times far away before I got bitten by these little "friends". If you are allergic - bring some anti-mosquito-stuff with you!!! You'll only need your summer clothes here! Shorts, T-shirts, short sleeve shirts, flip flops, sandals and sun glasses. You won't be needing trousers, jumpers or jackets at any time of the year!
You can get just about all your toiletries and medical supplies out there, but they can be a little more expensive. If there's anything you particularly need, you could save money by taking it with you.
There are some beautiful sights in Barbados, so take your camera! The only tip i will give, is that you should buy all your equipment at home and take it with you, because it can be expensive out there. Especially disposable camera's and underwater ones. Leave a Comment

Bob's picture of me and Leif from behind by grandmaR, 4 more photos I had a really big waist pack for carrying equipment
Bring a hat. I always want to wear a hat in the hot sunny climates. In the first and second picture (although the detail isn't real clear), I am wearing a kind of safari hat with a brim all the way around and a chin strap. It serves as a rain hat too if it isn't raining too much. Unfortunately I lost this hat in a taxi in Curacao. In the third picture, Bob is wearing the hat that I got him for Costa Rica. It has foil reflective material in the top. Both hats have chin straps so that they won't blow off. Bob normally wears a baseball type hat like he has on in the last photo.
Sunscreen.
Bring plenty of film for film cameras and also fresh batteries. At the time I made the first trip, I only had film cameras. If you have a digital camera, be sure you have practiced with it, and have plenty of batteries and/or a recharger
The first two pictures are where we stopped and had a picnic lunch. We didn't have one, but a small soft sided cooler to carry drinks in would have been nice to have.
Bob forgot his sunglasses, and we had to go and buy him some. Leave a Comment

Suntan lotion, mosquito repellent are readily available, but a bit pricy, best if you can bring your own (weight allowing)
If you come from a country with 3 pin plugs, do not forget to take an adaptor for the two flat pin plugs that are used here. Also a very good tip is to buy locally an extension lead, they are so useful for taking lamps onto balconies ( to assist with reading etc) also for personal dvd players to use on balconies, as too radios, etc. Leave a Comment

by Bgem It is warm and sunny all year round with an average daytime high of 75 - 85oF. The nights are usually slightly cooler. The prevailing northeast tradewinds blow steadily so that although it is bright and sunny, it is not unbearably hot. The rain usually comes in quick showers. The dry season lasts from January to June. We are in the tropics, and believe it or not, some people actually put on a sweater in the cool night winter time breezes. Barbadians complain that the sea is cold when its 78oF !!! ------------------------------------------------------ Sunny days and stormy weather Its mostly sunny and fair in Barbados. Warm days with cool winds and cozy nights. It rains most in summer and a good rainfall is refreshing and much needed. Rain is usually followed quickly by sunny skies and within minutes everything will be dry. Tropical rainstorms sometimes occur in the hurricane season which runs from June to October (as we say in Barbados - 'June too soon, October all over!'). Tropical rains are spectacular but the island is very porous and the heaviest rains quickly drain off into the underground lakes or the sea. Hurricanes usually avoid Barbados. They arise off the African Coast and head to the Caribbean, swinging North about 100 miles from Barbados. The pattern is reasonably consistent as hurricanes tend to bounce from one land mass to the next and Barbados is somewhat separate from the Caribbean island chain. This does not of course make us immune, but the last occasion which Barbados suffered a direct hit was in 1955. There is a story of a bus driver who drove his passengers straight through the worst of Barbados' hurricanes, 'was a bit of a breeze' he is supposed to have said. Other recorded hurricanes to hit the island occurred in 1898 and 1831. As a tip I have added a weather chart of Barbados showing weather pattern during the year! Leave a Comment

It is a Sunny destination, so shirts and shorts will do and some nice clothing for nights.
It is a beautifull island and you can get many good pics here, wide angle lenses will do a lot, a tele lens isn't really handy expect you want some surfing pics or you want to try to get the wild monkeys on film (yes they still are out there) Leave a Comment

by d6676 When you're headed out to a beautiful country with a lot of color - black and white film is a big NO!!! I have a ton of pictures that didn't fully capture the beauty of Barbodos because it was in black and white. So forget the black and white here. Leave a Comment

by smike Always remember to bring your camera, film and other supplies. You may never be back here again and you always want to remember what you saw in a picture. Leave a Comment

by Island_Babe The one thing to remember to pack if you are going for Crop over and want to participate on Kadooment day is a good pair of comfortable sneakers as you are dancing all day on the streets. The first year I went I forgot this and ended up parading through the streets in platform sandals! That was a scream, in addition to that, I had to wear these pants that were not stretching but fit like a glove to match the sandals and while executing a wicked wine my pants ripped!! LOL..lucky thing my friends were there to loan me a T-shirt to tie around my waist, of course that didn't stop the party! Leave a Comment

Well, regarding luggage: back in Stockholm it was very embarassing when the customs police checked our luggage in deep for two hours. Why did I bring that much things?? All my c-vitamins and a few pre-caution medicins were sent on drug analysis. I suppose they spotted us because the majority of the 400 on the flight was families with small kids, middle aged couples and seniors. They checked my sister and me and two single travellers.
Warm clothes wasn't needed, but a light weight umbrella is a good tip.
At least for a Swedish person almost everything, but rum and cigarettes, was more or much more expensive than at home so necessary things like sun protection, batteries and such thing is far better to buy at home.
Bikini needed! No top less sun bathing in Barbados. You get fined. One police looked at my sister for 20 minutes and then he wanted to charge her, but he was fine with a drink in the bar instead...
Next time I will bring a audio recorder. People said so fun things, discussions were so wild, and I'd like to record some live music, etc. No coffee culture whatsoever... so next time I'll bring a manual brewer and 1 kilo of high quality coffee. Leave a Comment
