Mosquitoes..... BITES!!!!

by ruffen

Either you get bitten (like me) or you don't (like my traveling companion). We did NOT use anti-mosquito-something... Only got the very very red marks during the first nights. I never saw nor heard the little red-spot-makers.The red spots looked UGLY but didn't hurt :)For me - over 20 times far away before I got bitten by these little "friends".If you are allergic - bring some anti-mosquito-stuff with you!!!

Shorts & T-Shirts!

by luke850

You'll only need your summer clothes here! Shorts, T-shirts, short sleeve shirts, flip flops, sandals and sun glasses. You won't be needing trousers, jumpers or jackets at any time of the year! You can get just about all your toiletries and medical supplies out there, but they can be a little more expensive. If there's anything you particularly need, you could save money by taking it with you. There are some beautiful sights in Barbados, so take your camera! The only tip i will give, is that you should buy all your equipment at home and take it with you, because it can be expensive out there. Especially disposable camera's and underwater ones.

Pack lightly!

When travelling, we ALWAYS try to pack as light as possible. One, if the airline "mis-places" your bags, your not out a lot of money. They are. It's also a lot easier to get on and off without the wait at the airport for your luggage. They allow two carry-on type luggages per person. We usually take one each. When travelling to the warmer climates, your clothing tends to be a lot thinner anyway. I was able to pack all 7 days with no problem. After all, it's just shorts, shirts and a lot of swimming wear. You'll probably want one or two nice outfits for dinner. I can't say this enough, it's layed back. As for shoes, we always take an extra pair of sneakers. It's not a pair we usually keep anyway. They are for swimming in the ocean. You never know what might be out there just under the sand. Be careful about what prescription and non-prescription drugs you pack. As with most countries,...

When you're headed out to a beautiful country with a lot of color - black and white film is a big NO!!! I have a ton of pictures that didn't fully capture the beauty of Barbodos because it was in black and white. So forget the black and white here.

It is warm and sunny all year round with an average daytime high of 75 - 85oF. The nights are usually slightly cooler. The prevailing northeast tradewinds blow steadily so that although it is bright and sunny, it is not unbearably hot. The rain usually comes in quick showers. The dry season lasts from January to June. We are in the tropics, and believe it or not, some people actually put on a sweater in the cool night winter time breezes. Barbadians complain that the sea is cold when its 78oF !!!------------------------------------------------------Sunny days and stormy weather Its mostly sunny and fair in Barbados. Warm days with cool winds and cozy nights. It rains most in summer and a good rainfall is refreshing and much needed. Rain is usually followed quickly by sunny skies and within minutes everything will be dry. Tropical rainstorms sometimes occur in the hurricane season which...

It is a Sunny destination, so shirts and shorts will do and some nice clothing for nights. It is a beautifull island and you can get many good pics here, wide angle lenses will do a lot, a tele lens isn't really handy expect you want some surfing pics or you want to try to get the wild monkeys on film (yes they still are out there)

The one thing to remember to pack if you are going for Crop over and want to participate on Kadooment day is a good pair of comfortable sneakers as you are dancing all day on the streets. The first year I went I forgot this and ended up parading through the streets in platform sandals! That was a scream, in addition to that, I had to wear these pants that were not stretching but fit like a glove to match the sandals and while executing a wicked wine my pants ripped!! LOL..lucky thing my friends were there to loan me a T-shirt to tie around my waist, of course that didn't stop the party!

Family Travel Plenty of high factor sun creams and mosquito deterrants Take plenty of films as they are on the pricey side Illegal to go topless in Barbados so keep covered on the beaches also try to keep out of the midday sun or if you don't wear a hat and find some shade I bought adaptors in the UK but they didn't work out there but they were on hire in the apts

We took one hard samsonite and one regular suitcase. Anything we thought breakable went firmly packed in the hard case. The regular case just had clothes. Really anything you want is available on the island so pack light and bring back some souvenirs. Take something like a long silk shirt for driving. Sometimes it's tough to get out of the sun. Silk is cooler and gives more protection in the hot part of the day. There can be periods of mosquito problems depending on the weather. Take some from your own country as they might be used to the local brands. You need an American Style adaptor plug for all electrical items. Lightweight sheet for the beach. Used hotel towels. We left a travel cot at home but, with hindsight we should have taken it.

Comfortable and hardwearing shoes - the roads are good in most places but in others you'll be sorry you wore those flimsy sandals. A hat for the heat and essential sunglasses. It's HOT! And very dry. Mosquito repellent; suncream.
