Cocomos: Gotta have a Flying Fish Sandwich!

by dbeatty

We cruised past this restaurant on our jet ski and noted that it was right over the water. It is a casual place to dine with a bar on one side. We sampled the pumpkin soup and the flying fish sandwiches (cause you just can't leave Barbados without having one!) and both were excellent.

The Restaurant at Southsea: If you like it a bit spicy...........

by lostinparadies

I would recommend to eat seafood there, its fresh and bit spicy, not as blad as I found it in other Restaurants on the island. Barry is a great entertainer and makes you most welcomed. Drinks are a bit overprized. Prawns in spicy sauce.

Mexican food at Café Sol in St...

by mirah

Mexican food at Café Sol in St Lawrence Gap was OK.Watch out for the double drinks during happy hour! We didn't.Three people, two dishes, and 6 huge margeritas... to start with. For us tiny girls sharing *one* plate had been absolutely enough!

White Sands, the bar: More drinking than eating...

by mirah

Didn't really eat much. Only went to a few restaurants. It was too expensive for us. 30 barbados dollars for a ordinary meal without any hights is too much. We had our own little kitchenette. Favourite food memory was to walk around at the fish market, drink Banks, and only look at other people eating...Instead we had lots of rum & coke at the beach bars, and sometimes we had a fresh fish burger with the bajan sause on. I liked the fish fast food, and the bajan peppar sauce was absolutely addicting. This bar is connected to the hotel White Sands. A few hotel guests and locals.

The Crane Restaurant: Sunday Brunch at the Crane

by scbelle

We had a great time at this--it was like a cross between a Country Club buffet and an upscale Bajan buffet. I am anti-buffets in general, but on Sundays in the South, the Country Club Brunch Buffet is an institution, so I'm ok with them. Mostly because people eat so much, they have to replace the food often! Anyway, there were no culinary fireworks, but they did have the best rice and beans I had on the island, plus brunch buffet classics like quiche, roast beef.... Generally a good mix of things. But the BEST PARTS were: The location: the stairs down the beach are actually just off the balcony of the restaurant: you are sitting right on the edge of the cliff looking down at the Atlantic and Crane Beach. GORGEOUS. Good Mimosas. The locals: The dining room was half hotel guests, and half local families in their Sunday finest. At one long table near us, there were four generations dining...

Daphne's: Shockingly good for a hotel restaurant!

by scbelle

Daphne's is apparently a sister restaurant to the Daphne's in London. I am totally apprehensive about hotel restaurants, but in Barbados that seems to be a unfounded fear. Also, we weren't sure about going to an Italian restaurant, which many purport it to be, but as it turns out, it wasn't at all. But we'll get to that in the dish section. As for the Ambience, it defintely isn't Italian! Rather, its very zen-asian style. Quite lovely. Be sure to ask for a seat beside the beach. Excellent ambience, and they seperate the tables in these little nooks, so despite the modern decor, its quite cozy. Good lighting as well. Service wasn't as fawning as the Cliff, but was certainly good. I had an Endive, Pear, Walnut and Pecorino salad with a coarse mustard seed vinaigrette (more French than Italian, wouldn't you say). It was DELICIOUS, but of course I think belgian endive is devine with a nut, a...

The Cliff: So worth it!

by scbelle

Okay, so a lot of people are scared away by the prix fixe, two course menu for $75. Well, chill out, because you're going to pay close to that for two courses at most of the finer restaurants on Barbados ANYWAY, and none of them match the ambience and service that The Cliff has to offer.I will talk about the food later on, so let me talk about the restaurant itself. Great coral limestone architecture that curves around a little nook on the shore, the waves lapping beneath you while you eat. A dramatic entrance down a wide stairway. GREAT, soft, romantic lighting. Excellent music on the playlist (which they kindly furnished to me upon my request!). The waitstaff couldn't possibly be more attentive in the RIGHT way (ie, non-obtrusive, but never lacking). The whole experience was so relaxing, it was like the outside world didn't exist.Oh--and when I had to go to the ladies room? I didn't...

Various vendors in Oistins' fish market.: Oistins famous fish fry.

by MTLbroker

Oistins fish fry is cited in numerous tourist guides as a place to go to sample the local cooking. The fish fry is actually held outdoors and is not a restaurant. The food is sold by local vendors from cabins. It is interesting to note that some of these places can offer a full menu and bar service from a 12X12 shack.Every Friday and Saturday night, people come out and party in an outdoor market atmosphere. There are two "sittings" - one early at about 6pm for the tourist crowd and another later on at about 10pm or so. The later one is when the party actually seems to pick up - some of the vendors don't even open for business for the earlier on. I was with my son, so I opted to arrive a bit early. The vendors were aggressive, coming out to greet you to try to get you to commit to eat at their booth. But take your time and take in the whole scene. It's fun and besides the area is not all...

Just Grillin': Excellent seafood at cheap prices.

by MTLbroker

This place is heavily promoted in the tourist guides and has a few reviews here as well. When I look at the photos in the tourist guides, it looks like a nice restaurant. When I get there, I find that the place consists of a cabana with a grill on one side. There are a few picnic tables and if it's busy, expect to have to share a table with othere - no big deal really. About 20 feet away is another cabana where you can buy drinks. It's not a restaurant per se. You have to give your order at the counter, then wait for your order to be filled. When they call your number it's like winning the lottery. They serve an assortment of grilled fish, chicken, burgers, hotdogs. All in all, a good experience. I was a bit disappointed to find out it was fast food and not a restaurant though. Went for the catch of the day. Dolphin fish grilled with grilled potatoes and grilled vegetables. Did not bother...

Pisces Restaurant: Great seafood, great setting, great service.

by MTLbroker

We were on our way to Bay Bistro when just down the road, we noticed a place called Pisces. We opted to go there instead since it was actually at the edge of the water - the Bay Bistro was set away from the water. We had no reservations, but we were early and there weren't too many people. The hostess led us to a lounge were we waited for approximately 5 minutes. A good selection of Martinis were available in the waiting area.We were led to a table overlooking the bay. If you looked closely you could swear that fishes were swimming by (probably my imagination). The setting was really nice. This was also the only restaurant we went to that offerred bread and water as soon as we were seated. They passed several times that evening with ice water and the bread was warm when brought to the table. The hostess checked on us during our meal and asked if everything was alright. In general, top notch...
