Mama Mia: Italian deli / pizzeria

by MTLbroker

The name of this restaurant could be Mamma Mia (or Mama Mia - not sure). This Italian deli / pizzeria was a short walk away from my hotel. We discovered it 4 days into our 7 day stay and wished we would have found it earlier. This place rocks. It is operated by Italians. Easily the best pizza to be had in our sector of Barbados. We had pizza from Mama Mia for lunch twice in three days! The place also has a deli counter where you can buy various meats. There is a small eating area, but in general, just order the pizza to go and eat it on the beach. This place doesn't advertise in the tourist publications. You will have to look for it as the entrance is very unassuming. The decor in non-existant. Definitely unpretentious. Food is its raison d'etre. But I urge everyone to give them business. I would hate to see this place fail. I want to be able to have their pizza again if I return to...

Cafe Sol: Mexican fare in Saint Lawrence Gap.

by MTLbroker

I go to Barbados and wind up eating Mexican food at some point! But based on the various reviews of the Cafe Sol found here, I decided to try it. I'm glad I did. The resto is situated in the famed Saint Lawrence Gap where there are some of the better restaurants. Get there before 7pm and you are in time for happy hour. We downed a couple of the best margueritas this side of margueritaville. They had another happy hour later at around 10pm.We started with some chicken wings. They were tasty and a 12 wings were enough for the three of us. The sauce had just the right touch of spiciness and the chicken was not overcooked.I had the tacotinos (small fried spicy chicken tacos that looked like mini eggrolls - not the taco bell junk food stuff). I got 4 in my portion, and with the sides, made a pretty decent portion. They were prepared in authentic style, but despite the fact that they were...

Pug's Restaurant: Eating Options at the Airport

by Hewer

There are aren't many places to eat here. Grantley Adams Airport is a bit of a shambles at the moment, and will be until early 2007. The airport is being completely rebuilt ahead of the Cricket World Cup (Barbados is hosting the Final), and for the time being there are no eateries at all in the terminal building. Something to keep in mind if you're planning to 'eat when we get there'.There are a few demountable buildings opposite the terminal selling beverages and snacks, but no substantial meals. There are two restaurants on the roadside opposite the airport car park, but they both have fairly slim pickings. Pie and peas, maccaroni pie, mashed potato and cutlets - home cooked type stuff. There's also a Shell Service station across the road which sells roti.

Daphnes: This restaurant is not to be missed

by stopatnothin

This is a sister to the Daphnes in London and boy oh boy does it make the palate water! I had a fantastic lobster and my mom had the fish of the day but meat is not a rare- ity here.*** Another tip for you honeymooners or those that want a special place to propose or those of you who just like things done right, Daphnes can arrange a romantic dinner right on the beach! How movie theme is that.

This was a very pleasant restaurant in the St. Lawrence area of Barbados. It is an open restaurant situated on the sea. They specialize in seafood. If you are looking for various restaurants the St. Lawrence area is where the are many restaurants and clubs. There are many choices there, it seemed to be the center of entertainment on the island. I didn't try everything but the had various dishes including flying fish, etc...

The Ship Inn: Good food and music too

by joanj

You can enjoy a traditional carvery and Bajan buffet in the Captain's Carvery, which is open for lunch and dinner, or a la carte dining on the deck in The Restaurant. (Lunch BDS$30.00 - Dinner BDS$46.00. For late night munchies try Barnacle Bill's BBQ for chargrilled fish and chicken sanwiches (rolls) burgers and hotdogs (open 10.30 pm until the wee small hours.) I thoroughly enjoyed the lunchtime carvery menu. - delicious -

Cheffete: Fast food on a beach

by MaineIslandgal

There are numerous Cheffete's throughout Barbados. The Holetown location is the jewel in the crown as far as location. It is an eat in restaurant or you can go out and eat at their beachside tables. A must stop if you are on a budget or even if you aren't. The menus include chicken, burgers, salads, ice cream and the rotis. Rotis are what give this fast food restaurant it's own Barbados flavor. Rotis are flour tortillas filled w/ a curry beef or chicken or potato mixed w/ both.

Oistins Fish Fry: Fish in an outdoor community fair atmosphere

by MaineIslandgal

Not a restaurant per se but definitely a dining destination in Barbados on Friday nights. You arrive at the fish market in Oistins in the early evening. There are a lot of people here but take the time to walk around and see what everyone has to offer. We noticed most tourists in an insanely long line in the actual market area. There are smaller vendors in sheds circling the square. After perusing the offerings of the different vendors we chose to get into the second longest line (the line mainly populated by locals) at Debbie's Griil and Fried Fish. We waited for about 45 minutes to place our order but we were able to go to another vendor and snag a few Banks beers to drink while we were in line. Once we ordered our food was picked off of the station that was making our desired entree. We then proceeded to the picnic tables that are placed around the square. We had each ordered grilled...
