Hire a car and drive around...

by Shar

Hire a car and drive around the island. Get your hand ready to honk my dears as it seems to be the way of communicating - good and bad!. Its honk for Hi. Honk for 'do you want a lift in the magic bus'(mini-vans -wanna be buses- run constantly and are the best way to get from A to B as long as you don't mind sitting on someones lap or the scent of wacky-tobaccy). The northern end of the island is very rocky and the water rough. there are some good surf beaches though given they aren't patrolled I'd stay knee deep or on the sand. Locals are around the cliff areas selling jewellery. They approach you car when you slow, so just in case - I'd hide your wallet and any grab-ables!SCUBA diving off the shore you can see a fair bit of soft corals and fish. i did a wreck dive which was interesting as it was my first. Though if you haven't dived, I suggest you go with a PADI dealer as the guy that...

Go to Crane Beach -- pay entrance fee and redeem for food/drink at the bar. Take a seat on the balcony area overlooking the beach. Be prepared for a fabulous view of one of the prettiest beaches in the world. On Sundays you can enjoy brunch and a steel band until about 3 pmVery relaxing and with a spectacular view that will long be remembered.

Harrison Cave and a ride on the Jolly RogerThe Jolly Roger is a party boat and what do you do on vacation but p-a-r-t-why? Because you gotta. Harrison Cave is one of the most beautiful caves that I have been in. The flourescent stylagmite is quite breathtaking.

by BROOKS

Bridgetown is the capital and commercial centre and has a population of about 80 000. Bridgetown was originally named 'Indian Bridge' for the rude bridge which had been constructed over the river (now known as the Careenage) by the Indians. It was later called the 'town of St. Michael' in official documents, before finally being named Bridgetown when a new bridge was built in place of the Indian Bridge, sometime after 1654.

Interesting bit of US history, the only place visited by the first US president outside the US.

Barbados Museum

Somewhat basic, but did give a broad overview of the history and resources of the island. Housed in a 19th century military prison, complete with a prison cell on display.

Andromeda Gardens Bathsheba

A lovely, low key place to wander around for a bit. It was nice to then spot the different tropical plants around the island on beaches and in people's yards.

Visit A Shipwreck

A fun thing we did was take the tall ships tour. We were able to relax on the boat, have a great lunch, and do some snorkeling.
