Helicopter tour

by agentjanet

My husband and I went on a champagne sunset tour with Horizon Helicopters and it was amazing... this is something a bit more expensive than some of the other tours but well worth it for the experience of a lifetime! Put it on your bucket list - you won't be sorry....

Take a Safari to See Barbados

by cmcard2

There are many types of vegetation from Palm Trees to Rain Forest. Abundant Sugar Cane Fields, and Mahogany Trees. Taking a safari is a way to view all of the gorgeuos views of Barbados and historical parishes such as St. John and its parish church erected in 1645.There is a foreign influence such as the Windmills brought by the Dutch from the Netherlands.

Rum Shop

by cmcard2

The rum shops are a unique feature of Barbados. The owners live on the premises, and they are a front porch of the house where you walk in, order perhaps a Banks Beer, the most popular and only beer on the island.

Walk the Boardwalk

by joanj

Why not join the locals and other tourists walking the boardwalk either for just a stroll, or for exercise. There is no lighting after dark along the stretch but the hotels and bars along the way have lights so most of it will be ok to walk as long as you are not alone, I would not recommend that. There are policemen patrolling the boardwalk (I have only seen them during the day) on Skegways, see picture two

River Bay

by Gillybob

Located on the north coast of Barbados, River Bay is a popular picnic spot, with the area often crowded on weekends and holidays. It is a great spot with views leading down the northern coastline which is Barbados' wild side. Beach facilities include washrooms, changing rooms and showers and there are picnic benches set within the shade of the trees. At low tide, the area is popular for swimming but swimmers should stay close to the beach as there are strong currents further out.The bay is named after a small freshwater river which runs down to the sea.

Little Bay

by Gillybob

Located on the north-east coast of the island, Little Bay has some great scenery to offer including tidal pools and blowholes. You will also find a natural swimming pool which is safe for swimming in, as well as great cliffs to climb which offer beautiful views over Little Bay - be sure to wear sturdy shoes as the rocks can be quite sharp.

Cherry Tree Hill Reserve

by Gillybob

Located on the north-east of the island, it is believed that the name "Cherry Tree Hill" originated from the large number of cherry trees which once existed at this location. Now it is an area where the road is heavily canopied and lined with mahogany trees, which were introduced into Barbados in 1763.The area offers great views over the 'Scotland District' which covers the parish of St Andrew and named after the Patron Saint of Scotland.

Sunday Scenic Ride

by Gillybob

One of the best kept secrets on the island, the Government bus service Sunday Scenic Ride will take you out to some of Barbados' best areas in a bus filled with locals and only a small number of tourists. The day I went out, we were three bus loads and a total of 7 tourists! The service runs from Independence Square each Sunday at 2:00pm and tickets are available from the change booths at Fairchild Street or Princess Alice Terminals as well as the Transport Board Headquarters. At BD$15 for the trip, its a great bargain and gives you a great opportunity to mix with the locals.Tours operate to :1st Sunday of the monthSpeightstown, Farley Hill, East Coast Road2nd Sunday of the monthCherry Tree Hill, Little Bay, River Bay3rd Sunday of the monthFoul Bay, Three Houses Park, Bath4th Sunday of the monthBathsheba, St. John's Church, King George V Park, Silver Sands

Catamaran Cruise

by Gillybob

There are many options for catamaran cruises across the island. I went out with Rubaiyat Cruises and had a great time. It is one of the smaller boats which I liked. These cruises have free-running alcohol, which can lead to some unfortunate times depending on the group you are travelling with. Most operators take you out to the marine park for snorkelling, followed by some cruising around the south west and west coasts of the island.Prices vary according to package.

Party Time

by Gillybob

Many tourists visiting Barbados will be staying in St Lawrence Gap. Here you will find a large collection of the island's hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs - everything to suit all tastes. For more information on St Lawrence Gap, check out my dedicated page on the area.
