Just the usual-the dreaded...

by Hazel_Wright

Just the usual-the dreaded timeshare has hit the Caribbean! Lots of new resort hoteld are being built, and the usual'just an invitation to look' and 'only 10 minutes of your time'. Easy to spot-just say no. Unless you want to spend hours of your precious holiday cooped up in a hard-sell situation with a free t-shirt at the end of it!

Dont be sucked in to buying Aloa Vera. On your first 'white' day the locals will come along the beach with a bottle (usually an old rum bottle) of aloe vera and start to put it on you. It does work but there is no point in paying them for it when you can find the plant yourself for free.

Cabs are very expensive be sure to ask what the rate is!!!! They are very aggressive following you down the street whilst you are trying to walk down the side walk.....way to pushy, we finally had to vanish into the fish market to get away from them. By the time all the cabs at the pier told us their rates and at least a dozen stopped us walking the sidewalk to town approx...6-7 blocks we were ready to head back to the ship.....none of them seem to know what NO meant.....weird!

I went to see the Tropical Spectacular show. If you like these kind of shows, it's nice. I think it's mostly geared towards tourists and really overpriced. You can see much more Bajan culture by going where the Bajans go.

by mirah

Not really a trap, but when calling home don't buy a telephone card just to be able to say a half sentence. Just dial 0 to the operator and they'll guide you to make a collect call.Took me a week to understand that local calls are free. So just pick any phone.

Crane Beach - Said to be one...

by anglosaxon

Crane Beach - Said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world but, I didn't think so. Very nice but, the public access was closed and you had to go through the resort to get to the beach which meant paying. You got the money back in the form of a free soft drink at the bar. Nice place but, Barbados has much better and there was nothing else in the area to look at.

Harbour Master - Tour 'boat'...

by anglosaxon

Harbour Master - Tour 'boat' with three floors (the bottom floor is underwater and provides the fish with something to look at). Such a big boat can only berth at specific places and these are well known to the locals. The sheer size of the boat and the number of people it could get on board puts me off.

by stockton

I wouldn't stay in Sam Lord's Castle. It is not near anything else and is on the rough, windy, wavy eastern side of the island. I suppose it is okay if you just want to stay in one place and not go anywhere for dining oir sightseeing, but that's not my idea of a good vacation.

There are MANY beach vendors...

by tazmaniak

There are MANY beach vendors selling sarongs, necklaces, Bajan 'art' and other things ... including dope (Ganja) or other drugs. By all means, buy what you like and spend what you want but they are a bit of a rip off but can save you going to the shops! Remember that buying drugs (this is not a lecture ... use what you want) increases demand to use local fields and resources for drug plants rather than natural flora. This damages the eco-system and can lead to destruction of natural habitats for local animals and people too!
