Bus system

by MaineIslandgal

Bus stops are located everywhere you turn. The Barabdos government operates large blue and yellow buses along these routes. All stops are labeled either Out of City or In to City. The government busses aren't as frequent as the ZR/reggae buses(vans) that follow the same routes. Just hop on either bus that shows up first at your stop and ride either to your destination or the main terminal in Bridgetown to change buses. Both cost $1.50 BDS. The reggae buses are definitely more fun what with the music grooving and the large number of riders that get placed in the van.If you need to go to Bridgetown the ZR/reggae buses do stop at their end of the line spot not the governments bus station. If you do take the reggae bus into Bridgetown the government bus station is only a few blocks away. Just look for the red roof and that is the government bus terminal.

Jolly Roger Pirate Cruise

by fitbod

Actually this is a part of the Tall Ships Cruises, the same company that has the Tiami Cruise. I did not take this cruise but heard it was fabulous fun in the sun, from start to finish! The infamous band of Pirates take control and lure regular folk onto their decks of pleasure! Of course the cruise includes World Famous Rum Punch!

yellow buses to anywhere

by ZiggySandfly

Use the local buses by all means they are totallly sate. There are two types Blue Buses and Yellow buses. Blue buses stop only at designated bus stops, and yellow buses stop anywhere you flag them down. Blue buses require exact change.

Music Buses

by C_L_T

pay US$1 on the hop on hop off music buses around the island...best around Bridgetown. Can get very cramped and watch your bag but great atmosphere...get around with the locals and listen to some tunes aswell....not a place for conversations!!

Taxis

by joanj

There are many taxis serving Barbados, always ask the price first before getting in. The taxis that operate at the airport are solely for that use, Taxis can collect you or deliver you to the airport as arranged with them.If you want to hire a Moke or rental car, there are plenty around, do not forget to take your drivers licence. You have to register at a police station to drive over there, although the rental co. can do that for you I believe. It is expensive to hire transport on B'dos, but worth it for a couple of days to go inland, or around the coast and stop at these beautiful sights to see.

Car Rental

by luke850

Renting a car is without a doubt the best way to see Barbados. It is more expensive that walking or taking a van, but it gives you the opportunity to see the whole island in your own time. When i was in Barbados, my dad drove me around the whole island in just a couple of hours, taking in the different beaches, cliffs, sugar plantations and a number of bars! It is the best way to see everything there is to see, and you can do it to your own schedule.

Taxi's

by luke850

You can pick up a taxi from a number of depots around the island. I have never taken one, but i have heard that they can be quite expensive. Vans are very frequent and much cheaper, so i recommend that you use this method of transport instead of a taxi.

Local Vans

by luke850

In Barbados busses are called vans, for the simple reason that Suzuki vans are used as busses. These are relatively small vans, that seat about 10 people at a time. A number of routes run throughout the island, and you can get just about anywhere on one. The best thing about them is that the drivers are more desperate to get you on their van, than you are to catch it! This is because there is no way of registering how many people have boarded the van, so the driver generally takes a large proportion of the fares home. You can jump on a van practically anywhere, just by putting your arm out to stop it, and the drivers will often stop just in case you want to get on! A journey costs a set price of $1, no matter how far you are going.

Hire a taxi for the day

by AcornMan

Taxis are surprisingly inexpensive on Barbados, and the price for hiring a taxi for several hours at a time is surprisingly reasonable. This is by far the best way to tour the island because the network of small rural roads winding around the hilly landscape can be quite confusing and a local driver who knows his way around is a huge benefit.

Get a Taxi

by percy961

Make sure you hire for a few hours a Taxi with a driver who knows alot about the Island and you'll have a great time.We decided to make a half day tour of the island, so we hired a Cab. Our driver was Vaughan, a man who knew a great deal about the island, its history, its wildlife, its plants and flora and his favourite subject of all..the local food. Our first stop was the old look out point at Gun Hill, with its breathtaking views down to the coast. Our next stop on the tour was the Rugged East coast of the Island and St John's church, Vaughan seemed to have a story about every grave we passed until we reached the end of the graveyard with its wonderful views of the Atlantic. We then drove down through Bathsheba and Cattlewash and up through an area call Scotland with its impressive views.
