You call this a car??

by 1Nomad

There are a limited number of places to rent a car on the island. We waited until we got to the island to rent one. If your going during a normal tourist season, you would definitely want to call ahead for reservations. We had to wait a day to get one. We were "off-peak". Read more about his under the heading of "off the beaten path" tips. You can get around just fine by using the public transportation. Cabs are also available, but expensive. When we left the airport for the Resort (6 miles), it cost us $15.00 US each way. Think about what that would cost to get around the entire island.

I think that the best way to get to Barbados, is to splash out, and go by boat. If you can't take a few weeks extra off work, then Plane is the quickest! There are lots of little vans that will take you almost anywhere. They do charge a small amount of money, and can be a bit bumpy, but if you dont mind that then they will get you from A to B safely. You could of course get a taxi but these are always much more expensive.

From England, it can only be flying, and on a scheduled airline if possible-more legroom. Try to get a non-stop route-re-fuelling adds so much more time to an already long trip.Bus, bus, bus!! You can go anywhere on the island for a flat fare of Bds£1.50 (about 50p). If you want to hire a car, you won't need one for more than 2 days, as the island is small enough to see everything in that time. A moke is fun, but an air-conditioned car is more comfortable.

There are two ways to get to Barbados, fly in or come on a cruise and that's it, plain and simple. The easiest way to get around is to hire a mini moke, it isn't too expensive and you can get anywhere you want. The otherways are the cab or minibusses, they are cheap, so plenty of options to get anywhere

Usually a plane or a boat since its an Island!!!!Wouldn't like to walk or take the car, eh!!!It has to be the 'boogie' bus. These white minivans speed along the roads and usually stop anywhere for you. They cram as many folk as poss in them and guarenteed the reggee music will be soooo loud you will be deaf when you get off. Its $1.50 anywhere. A real good laugh. Oh, girls don't wear a short skirt!!!!

We arrived by cruise ship.

by smike

We spent the day at the beach with other members from our group. We took a taxi from the cruise ship. The rate was very reasonable. Fares are goverment regulated, but it is still wise to establish a fare before setting out. We asked the driver to come back and pick us up at a particular time. He was there on time. There are many other means of transportation.

Driving around Barbados is a good way to get around. It's easy to get lost because there's lots of roads without signs, but you can always ask someone how to get where you're going. It's a good way to see the whole island in a day and look at the countryside and the different coasts.

By plane...Air Canada flies everyday as does British Airways... BWIA and LIAT also provide regular service. There are of course a variety of American carriers as well...Taxis are safe but it is safe and cheaper to take route taxis (vans).

I flew from London, UK. I travelled with Airtours and I would definately recommend them if your aim is to keep the family happy. There is a TV screen on the back of each seat with various movies, programmes, radio stations and even a camera that you can watch your own take-off from! There are 2 main bus companies in Barbados. The official buses are blue. There are also many smaller yellow buses on the roads which can be far more entertaining. They often have soca/ragga music blaring from the sound systems as they tear along the bumpy roads. They are often more efficient than the blue buses and far more regular.
