 | Caye Caulker Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 14 | | The II Bar (pronounced like a sailor’s “Aye Aye”) is like a playground for adults – one section has swings hanging from the ceiling, and it’s connected by a hanging rope bridge to another section. Upstairs is an open-air area with a thatched roof, hammocks, and a couple of picnic tables, with nice views across the island and out to the water. When we were there they were playing the typical Carribean reggae music that you hear all around the island. It’s impossible to imagine being anything but laid-back here. Try the local Belikin beer or a drink made with the local rum, which still tastes like sugar cane.

Even if you don't want to go out or drink or do anything, you have to come here! Lazy Lizard is situated right at the split (the beach), and it's a great place to hang out all day long. They also serve food so you can actually take sun and go swimming in the day, eat in the afternoon and party in the night. But the best about this place is the fishes! In daytime there are plenty of fishes swimming around you in the water, and if you swim a bit out you see the bigger fishes. In the night they turn on two spotlights to the water, and the big fishes swim around in the light. It's incredible to sit there on the beach, drinking a piñacolada, listening to reaggae and watching the small sharks and other fishes swim around. It's an amazing experience!!! :)
On one of the many signs in the bar it's written "No shirt, no shoes, no problem", and this really goes for the whole island. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Located at the split |
what can i say about this place? possibly the best darn sunset bar on earth! grab yourself the typical island drink (the pantyripper is what you ask for!), find a place to sit, and chat with new friends, fellow travellers, and locals, and while away another balmy tropical night. this is the place of the GO SLOW after all! for those of you who dont know what a pantyripper is, its pineapple juice and rum :) and a MUST when hanging at the lazy lizard!

The II bar (prounced aye aye) is a must for anyone visiting Caye Caulker. It is built on three levels and is all outside. It has a rope swing bridge connecting one side to another and a small elevator on which the beers or other drinks are sent to the different levels. This bar would not be out of place in a jungle. Reggae music is played all the time and some of the most interesting characters hang out here. It is a great place to kick back on a warm tropical evening. The roof keeps the rain off but there are no walls, it is completely outside and one can get a interesting view from the upper levels of some of the island. The top level even has a few hammocks for those lazy days.

The bar at The Split is every bit as popular at night as it is during the day. The main reason I think it's worth mentioning is because they have a street light there that shines directly onto the water, and you can watch the fish swimming around while you enjoy your drink. It's all open air, no walls, no floor, perched right over the water. Reggae music is standard.

This was something like a meetingpoint for backpackers from all over the world, mixed with locals, nice Jamaican music, absolutely perfect food, have amazing drinks or just chill out with a Belikin beer. We ended here every day, I loved this place, so cool and relaxed.

If you're a sports fanatic, this is the place to go. The only time I saw a television was when I watched some college basketball at this cool bar. People meander in and out all the time, locals and visitors alike.
Same as all - doesn't matter Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
This tri-level spot is small, compared to US clubs, but the atmosphere was very cool. The top floor has hammocks to lay in. The middle has the bar and swings to sit on while listening to good music. Outside downstairs is another place to kick it.
No shoes, no shirt, no problem. Just like everywhere else on the island. Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
One of the things we did one night was go to a slide presentation on the birds and animals of Belize called "Seaing is Belizing". It cost us $5 each, which I thought was a lot, but it was very worthwhile. I don't know the name of the bookstore and I don't know if it is still there. Currently there are two businesses that might be the descendents of the original bookstore One is: CCBTIA (Caye Caulker Branch of the BTIA) formed in 1985 which has the following Slide Shows and Videos * Natural History of Belize * Fish of Belize * Birds of Belize * Marine reserves of Belize * Fishing Regulations of Belize * History of Caye Caulker * Maya of Belize * Garifuna of Belize
No dress code - that's one of the charms of Caye Caulker Leave a Comment |
There's just nothing to do after dark! There are a few places where you can dance, but its full of tourists and there's totaly no athmosphere, at least that's my idea... Leave a Comment Theme: Other |
