San Juan travel agency based in Flores, Guatemala, operates a bus from Flores to Belize City. It leaves Flores at 5 o’clock in the morning which, God willing, gives you the chance to catch the 12 o'clock water taxi from the Belize terminal to Caye Caulker. One little detail - if you need a visa to visit the country of Belize make sure you have passport-size photos. Otherwise you will be dispatched back to Guatemala, where the photo shop is and thus miss the chance to board the bus again. The driver’s patience is limited!

We took the bus from Playa del Carmen an ended up in south of Mexico in Chetumal, here you have to pass the border and go thorough their system of Visas etc... you spend about 1 1/2 hour here, then you move on to Belize City. The last speedboat to the Cayes leaves about 15:00 from the Harbour, so you probably wont make it, you have to spend a night in Belize city.
Leave early in the morning and buy your ticket for the boatride in the busstation, the boats leves from the busstation !!?? 45 min later you are on the Cayes - Ya man!

Hot and dry the week we were there with an unusual wind blowing a smokey haze from the mainland. They had been having brush fires in Honduras an Guatamala as well as the usual smoke from slash and burn agriculture.

Stopped for lunch during a snorkel trip and spent a few hours walking around the streets of Caulker. There seemed to be a bunch of restaurants. I liked the pace there better than San Pedro. No cars or tractors just a few golf carts.
