    Caye Caulker Things to Do

The real reason to go to caye caulker is the reef about a half mile off shore. Many companies offer snorkeling tours to the marine reserves close to the reef. We used Raggamuffin tours and were very satisfied, they use sailboats for a very smooth ride and the guides are excellent.

    Belize City Things to Do

After you get out of the city and into the jungle, you will obviously step back in time. Also, you'll be entering the home of the true Mayan residents, the animals. In the jungles, there will be plenty of birds, lizards, crocodiles, etc. One of the biggest draws is the howler monkeys. Particularly in the late afternoon, they will be a bit more...

  • Split

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

The Split is a channel between the North and South Cayes ( the north caye is mostly uninhabited). Its the only real swimming/ snorkelling spot on the island and even here currents can be strong. However on a good day is crowded.

    Belize City Things to Do

If you get a chance to check out Belize Zoo outside of Belize City, be sure to leave your mark on the wall here. The cost is about 2.75 USD, 5.00 in Belize Dollars. The money goes to donations for the Belize Zoo so it's definitely a good cause. And if you go, see if you can spot my name (in the picture), it's up on the celing as soon as you walk...

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

After the most amazing vacation on Caye Caulker, Belize we came back home with many many highlights, but we all agreed on the 1 thing we would do again and again and that is the fishing adventure we went on with a local guy named Paps. He took us on a full day fishing trip which included fishing all around the Island and some neigbouring Islands,...

  • Manatee Tour

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

The first full day in Belize we took a trip with Driftwood Dive shop to see the manatees. The open outboard picked up guests from various hotels, and then sped to the mantee area. Here they turn off the engines and pole the boats into the area. Not only do the boats not use motors, but they are limited to a certain number at one time. We were not...

  • Sun Set / Rise

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

Pretty much every day we got up early enough to watch the sunrise over the Carribean Sea from our bedroom window, and after a few days we decided to head over to the other side of the island to watch the sunset. After hitting a few docks, we finally found the best spot on the island for watching sunsets: the small beach behind the Iguana Reef Inn...

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

Frenchie's is one of the dive shops on Caye Caulker. We used them for a night dive, and had a great time with our divemaster. However, we were a bit disappointed when they couldn't give us confirmations on our other dives, despite the fact that we had emailed them weeks before to set up these particular dives. They kept saying they had to hit a...

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

Anyone who's ever been on a trip with me knows that I'm not the kind of person who likes to just "sit down and relax" while I'm traveling, so even I am not sure if I recognize the person I became during the 10 days I spent on Caye Caulker! On several occasions while my travelmates were taking a nap or fishing from the hotel's dock I made my way...

  • Birdwatching

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

There is a bird sanctuary on the island if you are a keen bird watcher, it is only a few minutes from the pier (to the left) so even if you are here on a daytrip from Ambergris you will have time to go here as well as the split.

    Caye Caulker Things to Do

Kayaking across the split can be very fun and the scenery is beautiful. It can also be very entertaining especially if you know nothing about the functionality of a kayak. I learned that they are very heavy when the fill with water in the hull and almost impossible to float. That being said, one should not try to drag them to shore and dump them...
