The path to Altun Ha

by joiwatani

Just to warn visitors here that this is a ruin and it has never been developed by the government of Belize due to lack of funding. It's a pity because this place is worth protecting and worth saving!According from our tour guide, some residents still come and get some of the stones at the Altuh Ha. I noticed that some of the excavated site were missing some stones. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes because coming here entails walking stony hills and imperfect pathways and large stepping stones!

The stairs to the Sun God Temple

by joiwatani

The stairs going up to the Sun God Temple are uneven stones (not flat) and the steps are huge. Make sure to handle the railings and wear comfortable walking shoes when you climb the temple. The stairs are not wheelchair accessible. If you have relatives who are using canes or have problems walking, visiting the Altun Ha is probably not an option. Also, if you have infants or toddlers, make sure to bring a baby backpack carrier where you can just carry your baby. These stairs are not stroller-accessible either. The stairs going down is even steeper and just be careful. Always think safety.

The bathrooms in Altun Ha

by joiwatani

There is a staff who cleans the bathrooms (one for women and one for men) in Altun Ha but as expected, you have to give donation for the cleaning of the bathroom. And, make sure to bring your own toilet paper because they don't have any. (I didnt' see any when we went there). There are soaps provided and there is running water.Make sure to use the bathroom first and if you are travelling with children. It takes at least an hour or more to explore the Altun Ha ruins. There are no available bathrooms in the temple grounds. The bathrooms are located right after the gates of the Altun Ha.
