Suspension Bridge, San Ignacio

2 Reviews  San Ignacio is across the Macal River from their sister city of Santa Elena. To get from one side of the river to the other you must cross the one-lane Hawksworth Bridge - Belize's only suspension...

Cool your feet in Rio on Pools!

by saraheg77

After our 3-hr trip to Caracol, lots of walking up stairs and hiking around the Mayan city at Caracol, then another hour and a half drive back up the bumpy road, we stopped for a refreshing cool-down at Rio-on-Pools. There was a short walk from the main road to the pools... and then you see the pools and it is wonderful!! Sit and take your shoes and socks off and wash your feet off in the refreshing water of the pools!

Take a Hammock Rest!

by saraheg77

Most of the places we visited had a few hammocks! Make sure you take a little rest if you see an available hammock! People were friendly everywhere we went! And I liked that they promote napping in hammocks! This hammock was in El Pilar on the little trail across the road from the main city. The whole place was not crowded at all, so we got to relax here where the hammock was for a bit, undisturbed.

El Pilar - A nice excursion and a good value!

by saraheg77

El Pilar is a great place to visit! The entry fee is only $5 Belize dollars (about $2.50 US). It is also easy to get to and is only 12 miles northwest of San Ignacio, via Bullet Tree Road (although it's a bit bumpy). I loved exploring El Pilar and venturing in to all it's nooks and crannies! See my travelogue for pictures!

El Pilar - Good Value!
Take Snacks to Caracol!!

by saraheg77

Make sure to take some snacks and lots of water with you before you head out on your 3-hr drive to Caracol. There was one place we found along the way to get soft drinks, but they didn't have water. Plus, there is a nice little covered picnic area at the entrance to Caracol where you can have a snack before or after you explore. The picnic area even had several hammocks hanging up where you could rest a bit after your exploring of the Caracol city!
