    Hodie's: Ask for the escabeche

    by drwillis61 Written Apr 7, 2010

What a great atmosphere in the evening. Sit on the patio and enjoy the large lawn and invading orange grove. There is a playground for the kids and the local cuisine is excellent. Try the chicken, rice and beans with a starter of their flavorable chicken escabeche. Have a local beer - Biliken or Lighthouse to finish off the day's heat.

The TV was a little loud, but it was tuned to the annual state of the union address from the Belizean parliment, so we figured it was meant to be loud.

Favorite Dish: While it is the Monday night special, ask for the escabeche if you don't see it on the menu. I'm thinking this is a Belizean grandma's sick bed chicken soup. Browned chicken in a clear broth flavored with onion and allspice. To die for.

Hodie's: Relaxed outdoor dining w/a huge menu

by trillseeker Written Aug 3, 2006

Hode's Place is a huge covered outdoor restaurant just outside downtown San Ignacio. Especially good for larger groups - you are seated immediately. It features a relaxed atmosphere, but fairly prompt service. They also have a jukebox, video arcade and ice cream for after dinner. The varied menu features local favorites and familiar items for the less adventurous. Skip the nachos - they are not what you expect (cheese is served cold).

Favorite Dish: Skip the soda and order a fruit juice. Pineapple and watermelon juices are good when available, but the best is their lime juice (limeade). Meal favorites include the chicken fajitas ($6.50 USD) and burritos ($2.50 USD).

Chicken fajitas were a hit with our group. The large lime juice is a must.

Hodie's came highly recommended. It was just what we were looking for Beans and rice, Rice and beans, Great chicken, and the best rum and Coke I've ever had. Was it the food? Was it the company? Was it the outdoor atmosphere? Hmmm, maybe it was the rum! Either way, we had a great time.
