    Caye Caulker Sports & Outdoors

I played some basketball on the crappy court with the bent rims. It was great. I played in my Tevas, but most of the locals played barefoot. They play hard and have smiles on their faces as they do it. None of the attitude that American players have.

Brian Young is a local Belizian who had a very respected dive shop with local dive masters. The other dive shop which was run by New Yorkers and they were not appreciated by the local populace. They also offer snorkeling, Mayan ruin, river tours, fishing etc. Whale shark tours are also one of their specialties. Brian's wife supplies lunch to...

    Ambergris Cay Sports & Outdoors

There are several dive shops on the island, take your pick. They will take you out for diving or snorkeling. One place that we went was Mexico Rocks. It is a shallower area, 8-15 feet, and the water is quite clear teeming with beautiful fish.

Charles Darwin referred to the Belize Barrier Reef in 1842, in his study of the origin and evolution of coral reefs. Since then it has become renowned as the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. Nearly 260km long, it runs from the northern border of the country, where it is only about 1km offshore, south to the Sapodilla Cayes. Since I...

  • Cave tubing

My husband and I went on a cave tubing and Belize zoo tour with a company called Searious Adventures in Jan'06. We booked though our hotel (Mayan Princess) on Ambergris Caye. My husband and I really enjoyed the zoo, it was very ecologically minded. The cave tubing was pretty cool, about 1.5 hours on the river. I was surprised at some of the rapids...

  • Scuba diving

Scuba diving in Belize is some of the best in the world. San Pedro on the Ambergris Caye is the main destination, but don't forget to check out Caye Caulker as well. The rooms and diving are cheaper here and less people. I suggest you bring along your own personal gear, ie, mask, fins, regulator etc. Wet suits are not needed since the water temps...

  • Diving in Caye Caulker

I've only dove with one operator in Caye Caulker, Frenchies. It is the oldest locally owned dive shop, and has been around for twelve + years. Run by Abel (a local and instructor) and his wife. I've also had friends dive/get certified at this dive center. Although it may not look like much, they are very good and very thorough. Alberto is a very...
