We found the Purple Space Monkey to be very satisfying. We ate there for breakfast and enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon, french toast, fry jacks, and orange juice, which all tasted great. We also used their WiFi and it was fast and reliable. We enjoyed live music while eating there for dinner. The nachos were great as well as the chicken teriyaki wrap.
Favorite Dish: The local fry jacks were delicious with my eggs, and also tasted great with butter and sugar. Fried dough, yum.
Great food ! Tiffany and the gang are very friendly and will welcome you with open arms. We had a great time with the local musicians and talent show . Was there just last week, 3/1/2010 and I WILL be back !
Favorite Dish: Shrimp pasta with spices
It is hard to catagories this establishment. The Purple Space Monkey covers so many angles. It is a coffee house, internet cafe, bar and restaurant. For this reason the place is always very busy. Personally although I did spend alot of time here, I was far from loving the place. I thought that the food was not very good and the bar staff was abrasive. There is entertainment here on many nights but it was just mildly diverting. Perhaps the best aspect of the Purple Space Monkey was that it is a good coffee house. Inside there is a book exchange and on the patio there are four computers with internet connections that are free to use as long as you buy some beverage.
Need an update.....the original Purple Space Monkey burned down in May of 2006. The rebuilt restaurant opened in Dec. Still located across from the ball field but a totally new look. Wooden buildings with the kitchen in one, the restaurant in the other, bright colours, fresh and new.
The menu is the same. Service is great, food terrific. There is a book exchange but now no computers, it is a hot spot but if you travel with your own lap top customers can go online for free.
Favorite Dish: Lime shrimp with mashed potatoes.....excellent.
Also daily specials for only $20 BZ with soup or salad to start....different every day. The 3 bean salad is great and I loved the tortilla soup. You also get dessert and coffee or tea.
Fast and good service. They have a diner's club too buy 3 dinners and get the 4th free up to $25! (Specials don't count though). Kids meals are half price.
This new place is not in the best location in Placencia and is not easy to find ( turn down the alley opposite young the barefoot bar or the Chinese supermarket.) However, it is certainly worth the effort. The Chef Marcus is English with wide experience and training in Europe and it shows. This is top notch French food which would rate a star in my homeland of France. We tried Garlic soup, and a wonderful carpaccio of tuna followed by brochette of lobster and grouper and delicious local venison. All wonderful and served with style by Anna Marcus' Swedish wife. A good and ( for Belize) not expensive wine list and a pleasant cool atmosphere make this a really special place to go and miles away from the routine bar food available everywhere else.
Go soon before they are 'discovered'.
Favorite Dish: Its all good but his fish ( whatever the fishermen bring in) is astounding
The food here is some of the best in Placencia but it is a little pricey. The restaurant is decorated in bright colours and is a large thatch open terrace. There is an onternet café and a book exchange as well. You could also just come for a drink at the bar, the atmosphere is very relaxed and laid back.
Great place, and we were in there every day. We ate there, and stopped in for iced coffee and to use their internet cafe twice ($10 US per hour) and to check out books. They have a nice little library you can rent books from. Staff could be friendlier; they are a little standoffish, but will give you whatever you ask for. Buffet night is Wednesday and it sells out quickly, so watch out for that.
Favorite Dish: The Creole shrimp was wonderful and spicy but not too hot, which is fine because every table is equipped with the famous Belize-made Marie Sharp's hot habenero sauce. We also tried the mango chicken with coconut curry sauce, which was even milder, and had pineapple in it, but it was really yummy.
Jake's is located on the road near the ballfield, it the big thatched building. It's very informal with a library exhange, internet services, postcards, sometimes locals sell crafts inside or on the front steps and a small bar. The breakfasts are big, tasty and fairly quick. It's a great place to lounge around in sipping on a Belikin, escaping the sun.
Favorite Dish: I love the orange juice, fresh and cold...great with breakfast, lunch or dinner
Despite the dubious-sounding name, the Purple Space Monkey serves some of the best food you'll find in Placencia. It's a tall, thatched building on stilts that also advertises internet access that's available in in an adjacent room.
Favorite Dish: Cliff got a Belizean chicken dish he swears is the best meal he had in Belize - and we had some pretty good meals there. My dinner was a pasta & chicken dish that was tastey, although I thought the sauce was slightly acidic.
