The Galley: Best Food in Placencia
My wife and I enjoyed "The Galley" twice during our honeymoon in Placencia. We ate at a ton of places, but just never found one to compare to The Galley. We are both vegan, and Cleveland (the proprietor) took great care of us. My favorite dish was a vegetable curry. yummmm! Another great enjoyment was watching the neighborhood kids play soccer on the field in front of the restaurant.
We also fell in love with his special homemade salsa which came straight out of his garden. We had to take some home!
Don't miss the Galley if you are ever in Placencia, Belize. It is one of a kind!
Favorite Dish: Curry Dishes. Fried Plantains. Special Homemade hot sauce.
The Galley: Pass!
Had dinner on a recommendation and wish I would have passed. Food came out cold, very average at best, and horrible service. So many other places to go in Placencia for a great meal!
Favorite Dish: ~Had the curry shrimp, grilled lobster. Both arrived cold and were very chewy. Waiter forgot salads for the table, and we only saw him once for drink orders. Had to physically go to the bar towards the end of the meal to get another drink. Also had to hunt him down to get the check!
The Galley Restaurant: The Galley is cool
The Galley is located right behind the football field, across the street from the Purple Space Monkey. It is a grand old house with a porch, which is where the tables are. They have wonderful entrees, especially great shrimp and steaks, and fantastic fruit milkshakes. Try the soursop, craboo or mango milkshakes. Try the deep fried shrimp, which are huge! The proprietor is a little daffy older lady who's sweet and funny. She'll feed you even later at night. The crowd is eclectic and there are only six tables outside, and when the football lights go out it's dark, but a very cool place.
Favorite Dish: Great deep fried shrimp with rice and a mango milkshake. It's just great and inexpensive.
The Galley Restaurant: Soft jazz
Individual service. The lady in charge came out and asked us whether we would eat salads. When we said that we would, she said that many tourists refused to eat fresh vegetables, and that she was tired to serving them to have them ignored.
Favorite Dish: I had conch steak and my husband had steamed shrimp- when we asked if we could have it steamed instead of fried (as on the menu) they were glad to comply Fresh salad was served when we assured her we would eat it, and grapefruit juice. US$24 for two

"The Galley Restaurant and Bar should not be missed by jazz lovers or those who enjoy good food. Cleveland and Julia Berry fix a fine T-Bone (US$8), as well as Creole style lobster (US$12.50). Try their famous 'Seaweed Drink' - similar to egg nog with a pleasing flavor and a shot of brandy for good measure. Locals giggle and say, "It's good for de back mon!" by which they mean it improves a man's performance of his husbandly duties. Who can say?"
.The Galley and Tentacles are where the action is at night. Unfortunately, when we were there Tentacles was not open.
