    The Beach Bazaar: Memories

by YolandaC Written Nov 1, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Beach Bazaar is a souviner shop with some spark. Annette, stocks an array of select Belizean art, music, books, hot sauces etc.
The front porch is a great place to lounge and watch the slow flow of people on the sidewalk.

    What to buy: t-shirts
    Mayan crafts
    hot sauce
    post cards

    What to pay: .50 - 100.00

  • Don't expect much

by kuklub Written Mar 31, 2006

There are a few souvenir shops in Placencia selling mostly Guatemalan crafts. They are OK. Next to Purple Space Monkey was a pottery shop which had some nice bowls and objects from Mexico and Nicaragua. There is very little in the way of "local" crafts.

Shopping for food was an experience. Even though Belize is a major exporter of bananas, there were none to be found in any of the grocery stores. After searching three stores, we were lucky to find three small tomatos. Fresh vegetables are quite rare. On a good day, you might find fresh bread. If you are cooking your meals, you will mostly depend on canned or packaged foods and frozen meat. You certainly won't go hungry, but don't expect to find the selection of items you get in other resorts.
