The main mode into Placencia Village from Belize City is by plane. Two companies make regular daily flights into Placencia, some with a stop-over in Dangriga some straight through. Maya Tropic Air is reliable an easy. Once through customs look for the ticket counter directly through the doors, they will set you up. Tropic Air is the second company and though I have traveled it less it seems to be as reputable. Both airlines have websites and reserving your flight would be wise, remember there are baggage allowances. Flights run around 100 US and take around 45 mins.
On our way to Placencia our bus broke down and we had to hitch a lift. We were told another bus was coming from Dangriga but according to the locals its best to just hitch a lift, obviously use the same precautions as you would anywhere ie don’t hitch a life on your own.
The buses can get very crowded so its best to get the earliest bus or get to the bus station instead of catching it along the road, you can flag down the bus anywhere on the main Placencia road). There are only two buses which leave very early in the morning (5am and 6am)
Maya Island Air flies small planes from Belize City to the tiny airport on the north side of the Placencia peninsula, just about a 5 or 10 minute drive from the village. You can arrange for a taxi to bring you into town.
