by IceBear7 A dark hut, smoke, a strange smell, lots of green plants around, weird machinery - it's exciting to visit the small rum distillery in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola. You can take a look around, or have the guided tour (1 Dollar including rum tasting), 2 Dollar or buying a bottle of rum and you are allowed to take pictures inside the little "reception room". It's not much they produce here, but a large part of their rum is even exported. Leave a Comment

by IceBear7 It's either today or "the old days", in the BVI there's no big difference between yesterday or 10 days ago or 100 years ago. If you drive along Ridge Road, through the mountains of Tortola, you come across a wall with beautiful paintings of "the old days", for example when sugar can was cut to produce rum. It was done by local people of the community, old and young. Really worth seeing! Leave a Comment

Bay by kyoub Good for swimming, this wide, palm-fringed Lambert Beach, also called Elizabeth Beach, is very pretty with fine white powder sand. Great views to outlying islands. Guana Island is the island shown in the background of the picture. Green sea turtles nest here in Jan and Feb. Well worth a special trip! Swimmers must be cautious about the undertow on certain days. Smuggler's Cove by kyoub This was one of Tortola's little secrets when we was there but things may have changed by now. To get there we had to go down a very narrow bumpy road past the Long Bay Hotel. It was very nice when you finally got there. It is called smuggler's Cove. I think because this is where the pirates hung out. Leave a Comment

Garden by kyoub The Botanic Gardens covers just under five acres, in Road Town. The park gives you a glimpse of a variety of Caribbean flowers and herbs. The most interesting part is the mini-rainforest with exotic its plants shaded by huge Saman trees. You will probably spot some birds and lizards there also. Leave a Comment

Sandy Beach by kyoub Josiah's Bay is totally empty. It is on the northeast side of the island. The road leading there is very rough so you really need a 4-wheel drive. No facitities but there are come cottages nearby. Leave a Comment

Savanne Bay by kyoub This little bay on Virgin Gorda, was very quiet when we was there. We had it all to ourselves. Leave a Comment

If you are into interesting bars that are out of this world, The William Thornton is one of those bars. Norman Island, the William Thornton is a ship so you can only get there by boat. Not for the faint at heart, Greg's favorite line overheard at the William Thornton, "Son, it looks like it's time to drink some tequila."

If you did not sail into the BVI or bring your own boat, then I recomend renting a small power boat or dinghy for a day or two and getting out and about. The islands are really best seen from the water, and there are so many small jewels of land scattered out in the sea that you will miss out if you don't. There are some tiny islands and empty beaches like you have never seen that you can only get to by dinghy. It's worth every penny spent. Leave a Comment

White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, located north of the big island - Tortola, offers a the most stress free day anyone could find anywhere! Swim ashore, buy a painkiller with your soggy dollars, toast a friend, find a hammock, and chill. With a bigger group of friends, it is more fun to procure a hammock from someone else. Your task is to remove them from the hammock, their defense is to stay put, while all try to their best to keep their painkiller from spilling!! And that's is the game called "That's My Hammock" (coined by Pelican, my twin in life). Leave a Comment
