MOSQUITO REPELLENT OR SUFFER!

Make sure to bring Mosquito Repellent. You can never be sure that it works but you should at least give it a try. We brought German "Autan" but it didn't work too well. The local "Off" spray didn't work too good either (even though the "deep forest" version wasn't too bad!). You just have to be lucky to find one that the mosquitoes are not used to yet, otherwise they will make you itch and scratch. Especially at nightfall and after the rain there were mosquitoes everywhere!

Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and more sunscreen!

I know this has been drilled into everyone's brain by various health officials, parents and doctors, but please, WEAR SUNSCREEN. Tans may be desirable, but sunburn is one thing that can majorly hamper your fun. While snorkelling especially, make sure to cover your calves, ears, back and arms. I sustained a terrible sunburn on my calves the first day on the islands and wasn't able to stand for about a day as a result, and my brother's entire back got fried. Be smart about sun exposure, it'll make your visit much more enjoyable.

A little dab is not enough

I always take my little waterproof belt pouch when snorkeling or swimming around the islands, so passport, credit cards & money won't be stolen from my car or tote bag. Reef walkers & sport sandals (like Tevas, or Reef thongs) are great, and one pair of dressier sandals if you want to go to nicer restaurants INSECT REPELLANT!!! If it rains & you are on land, the skeeters are gonna getcha. If you're on a beach around dawn or dusk, the vicious & voracious sand fleas will swarm all your exposed body parts. I used the spray kind at my room, & carried the Off Deep Woods Towelettes (available at the local market) in my purse, and then used vinegar to take the sting out of the bites that still got through...but then I am a bitey-bug magnet (sigh). Oh, transparent Caladryl also helps. Per Tinkan, Catus Juice is the best organic bug repellant, and use Avon's Skin-So-Soft on legs to keep the...

Backpacks, Rucksacks, and good hiking gear. Because of the steep hills and water transportation (dinghy's etc.) this is not a good location to bring a suitcase to. You will not be able to drag it around to the best spots. Good walking sandals, sun hat, and cool clothing that can cover you from the sun when needed (there is no shade on most of the tiny islands). SUNBLOCK, Bug spray. Lots of camera cards or film!! you will take a thousand pictures of the water alone. Snorkel or Scuba equipment is a must have
