I went to spend the weekend at Tortola and the single most delicious experience I have is eating in Dove Restaurant. The restaurant is cozy, dim and generally of good ambiance. Everything I had and my family was superb. The only thing that I didn't like was the price, because it is on the pricey side, but it is worth it!
Favorite Dish: Fresh fish covered in caviar was the best dish I had here.

Nice place, has its own dinghy dock. Great place to watch the sunset EXCEPT all the ferries come in and go out right next to it and its really noisy. Also the tv above the bar is permanently tuned to sport. Then you have the barman cussing with all his loud taxi driver friends sitting around the bar in the dining room. Food is pretty good, but the service isn't. Some of the waitresses need a course in basic manners.
Not for families with young children as there is nothing stopping them from running off into the sea when playing around.
Favorite Dish: Pizza - very good

We had dinner here. The cook (a friend of theirs) ran out of propane. Watched snowboarding on ESPN while we ate. Since we were on a mooring, the 100 foot dinghy dock was of particular interest.
Open for business from October 1st to July 31st. Closed annually from August 1st to September 30th.
The Jolly Roger Inn is for sale according to their website
Favorite Dish: Bob had swordfish and shrimp. Shrimp is on the current menu and so is swordfish, but not together
Gwen and Don had tuna (still on the menu as Sesame Encrusted - Pan seared Yellow Fin Tuna Ginger soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger, rice and fresh vegetables) and
I had red snapper with papaya sauce (similar to this Pan Seared BVI Scarlet Snapper
Portobello mushrooms & sweet Papaya Butter)
All very good although Gwen and Don said their tuna was overcooked.
I had chocolate mousse and Bob had Key Lime pie. Gwen had the key lime pie too, but she thought it was too tart. Chocolate Cake and BVI Rum Fried Banana are also available
I also had a virgin strawberry daiquiri.

A $5 taxi ride from Road Town but well worth the effort. I had shrimp, scallops, and conch three ways (garlic butter, curried, lime marinade), and it was nothing short of outstanding. But I couldn't stop salivating over the ribs many other diners had ordered. They also have fresh fish and lobster prepared just about any way you want it.

Although a chain - the food is pretty good and the restaurants tend to be in touristy areas. Most have gift shops with them which are not cheap but the quality of their goods are decent. There are three in Tortola - one in Soper's Hole overlooking all of the boats moored overnight, another is in Roadtown in the center of everything and the third is on Marina Cay which is a small island right next to Tortola.
Favorite Dish: The painkillers are pretty good here if you enjoy island rum drinks.

We stayed 4 nights on Tortola during our Virgin Islands vacation. It is the largest of the British Virgin Islands. In my opinion, it is much more laid back than St. Thomas or St. John. The BVI as a......

We've been to Tortola from a chartered sailboat 4 times. In January 1997, we went in to Soper's Hole to check into the BVI, and then we had our last dinner there before we left. .
