Favorite thing: I went with the a group of cousins and we all agreed that snorkeling was our favorite activity. The only reason we would come out of the water was to prevent us from becoming raisons. Many wonderful places to snorkel. Our favorite was Cemetery Reef and also Smith's Cove.

Fondest memory: The Highlight of the trip was our trip to Stingray City. We booked an all day trip with Captain Marvin. Our first stop was a dive for conch which the Captain and his crew turned into appetizers for lunch. Then we stopped to look at the Coral Gardens which were teeming with fish. This was followed by an amazing shore lunch which the Captain and crew prepared and served. The Mahi-Mahi was delicious. After relaxing for a few inutes we continued on to Stingray Sandbar where we fed the stingrays. This is an experience that cannot be adequately described in words. You are surrounded by twenty or thirty stingrays in waist deep water and they brush against you with their velvety undersides looking for handouts. Amazing. Afterwords we went to the barrier reef where our guides fed a Moray Eel and Nurse Shark. I even got to pet the Nurse Shark on the Belly. What a great day! Do not miss this experience!

    You MUST experience swimming...

by piedleger Written Aug 25, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: You MUST experience swimming and feeding the stingrays. First you take a bus from the harbour which takes you on a ride for about 30 minutes.
Then you take a boat together with about 20 persons. This boat takes you out to sea after sailing around 20 minutes. Then comes the fun.
You jump in about 3 to 4 feet of INCREDIBLY CLEAR water and the stingrays know you are there. They come in bunches and you can pet and feed them as long as you don't step on their tails. My wife, who is afraid of water and fish, adored this excursion and would do it any time.
Just look at the two photos.

Fondest memory: We were there only on a stopover from a cruise but loved the place and the stores near the harbour, some have no floors, it is sand, and this is not in a hut.
This was on the island of Grand Cayman.

    by Dan1000 Written Aug 25, 2002

Favorite thing: Taxi's and local buses are ways to get around but the former is a bit expensive and the latter are unreliable but cheap. Your best bet is to rent a car. They cost less than $30 a day and give complete freedom to explore the many public beach areas. Driving is on the left side but traffic is slow so adapting to the English style is very painless.

    by Dan1000 Written Aug 25, 2002

Favorite thing: Visit Stingray city or the sandbar for a very unique experience. Several excursions go there each day and you can get in the water with the stingrays, which are tame, and pet them, feed them and swim around with them. I don't know of anywhere else that you can do this and it really is fun.

Favorite thing: Go swimming. The water is great, clear and teaming with fish.

Fondest memory: I have been to Cayman islands multiple times and swimming with the stingrays has been the most memorible experience. I have dived and snorkled, in many areas of the world, but swimming with and feeding the Stingrays was the best. Here is a picture of my wife swimming with the stingrays

Fondest memory: Rum Pointe, they had everything from a great beach with plenty of water sports to a really laid back bar. Because of my limited time, Rum Pointe was all I could see - but enjoyed it none the less.
Rum Pointe has an exceptionally shallow beach and the snorkeling is average. The warm, shallow water attracts small stingrays - so watch your step! Stepping on one of these guys would really ruin a vacation!!

Favorite thing: See the island. Try the Rum cake. Enjoy 7 mile beach. The water is probably the most beautiful in the world. Go snorkling or diving at the reef. Shop!!

Fondest memory: The water!! All day sailing on a private boat with 2 other couples with Captain BC. Lobster and champagne at sunset and sailing back into the marina because the battery died on the boat.

    Rum Point Beach

    by jonkaren3 Updated Aug 24, 2002

Fondest memory: The hammocks at Rum Point! Grab a Mud Slide and a hammock and you're there! What a picture can't show are the sounds and smells. Bird calls fill the air and the tropical flowers are indescribable. Food grilling outdoors of the Rum Point restaurant makes your mouth water (even though the food here wasn't great.)

by rjg Written Aug 24, 2002

Favorite thing: Rent a car and drive around Grand Cayman from 7 Mile Beach all the way to Rum Point. There are many interesting things to see along the way. And, the island is so small, you can see everything in one day.

    Fondest memory: Incredible snorkling!!!

Favorite thing: Jump into that gorgeous water! Definitely go scuba diving, it's wonderful in that clear, blue water.

Fondest memory: Just lying on the beach and doing absolutely nothing......and also snorkeling. Speaking of the beach---this picture was taken of 7-mile beach and some of the cruise ships in port, while riding on a jet-ski.

by Witaduran Written Aug 24, 2002

Favorite thing: Stingray City!!! We were on a cruise celebrating our anniversary. It was great. We only had enough time to go to Stingray City, very little time for the town. Definitely take a catamaran, it's just not the same if you go out with 50 people, and go early before those hungry stringrays get fed too much.

Fondest memory: Just like most of the others who listed here, Stingray City ranks up there with one of the best times I've had in the water ( the Palancar reefs in Mexico just barely came in second). The stringrays were so gentle and beautiful. I actually held one in my arms. I can never look at them in the same way now. A few hours just wasn't enough, so.... we are coming back this October to celebrate anniversary #30. A whole week in paradise.

Favorite thing: Scuba dive. The Cayman Islands has wonderful scuba diving. The water is incredibly clear. The fish are brightly colored and plentiful. And the coral in the area is unique and Beautiful.

It’s an exhilarating, one of a kind

Fondest memory: Stingray City is a popular dive site in Cayman. When you plunge into the water you are immediately surrounded by large stingrays. Don't worry they wont hurt you. This is an amazing experience to swim with these graceful creatures.
