All of the cruise ships stop in the Port of Georgetown and let the people get off for the day and shop or go to the beach, or both if you have the time!!

Free samples of Tortuga rum cake in almost every shop!! Coupons for a free blue topaz(you can have set that day in whatever you desire) that will cost you. Use coupons in George town, go swim with the manatees and sting rays, also a submairne ride very small 4 people I think.

The Turtle Farm, just north of Georgetown was a little underwhelming. Go there only if you're just crazy about turtles. But then, if you are turtle-crazy, you might get upset when you find out that most of the turtles are harvested for soup. There's a dive shop right next door so go snorkeling or diving and see some turtles in the wild instead.

This is the greatest tourist trap to fall into. Go snorkeling in Stingray City! It's crowded (and slimy) at times but completely refreshing.

Don't be frightened. By the time I got used to the stingrays it was time to leave... who knows when I'll have the chance to feed one again.

Go to Hell...... Hell, Grand Cayman that is. Actually, it's a fun little stop and you can send a postcard from Hell.

  • Hell...Lava land. They have a destination called Hell something. This is a waste of time and should not even be an attraction. They have a spot maybe a 1/4 of an acre that is all old lava looking rocks. Within them they have painted cardboard devils that are on sticks....

If you think you'll get a good deal at the duty free shops, you're wrong. They aren't really a deal and they're mobbed with crazy tourists. Avoid Hell, the town. Its a trap and not really worth seeing. The turtle farm was fun, but a little pricey. If you must choose one of the three, see the turtles.

  • Snorkle trips. Most of these are 'cattle cars' and they just run masses in and out. Tortuga Divers runs snorkle trips with less than 10 to neat sites away from everyone else. Go to them, avoid the others.

Plenty of ads about this guy but he can't seem to agree on pricing. We have gone on 3 charters and each time the final price comes as a surprise since it is not what was quoted. We are now recommending other charter captains on the island.

    Taxi Traps

  • Rent a car! Taxi drivers tend to make up a price at the end because there is no meter.

If you MUST take a taxi... set the price before hand. The last thing you want is to be stuck in a strange place with a $50 taxi bill.

It would be well worth the trouble and price to just drive yourself... there are very few roads so you can't really get lost, plus you can go more places if you don't always have to wait for a cab.
If you're staying at Seven Mile Beach and don't plan to ever leave that area, then just take the hotel shuttle to and from the airport, but if you want to see other parts of the island either rent a car or become friend with some-one who did.

  • Shopping in Georgetown. Georgetown is really pretty small and there is not a lot to see there. The streets are very busy with traffic so watch yourself when crossing the street. The shopping is really very diverse. If you are looking for a $20,000 diamond necklace or a $20 t-shirt you are in the right place. Other than expensive jewelry and cheap souvenirs, there is not much to look at. You can only look at so many rum cakes right? On the other hand, you have to be able to say you were there so go take a look. If you get board, you can always watch them unload shipping containers from the big cargo ships in port. That was the most fun we had all day. There is an English pub and a Hard Rock Cafe so if you are really bored you can at least stop in for a cold beer.
