Plant Mall claims to be the largest club in Central America -- which it probably is. Drinks are a little expensive (for CostaRica) but it has a good atmosphere and many locals. It is huge. This means you are able to enjoy a quiet conversation about the day's events/but also enjoy a very loud club atmosphere.

Discos and bars in San José as well as in other small towns play mainly Salsa and Merengue. it is just big fun to visit several places and to see the 'ticos' dancing - they love dancing and almost everybody dances!! Dress the way you feel good!

by giobiker

Our first outing was to Franky Goes in Escazu. It just opened and we found the locals to be a bit intimidated by our Anerican way of dancing. It was even pointed out to us by a Tico - not enough hip action. After a few lessons, we hit El Pueblo. Definitely a more happening place to be. Lots of little quaint bars and restaurants with good looking Ticos. To party with young American kids, stop at Infinito in El Pueblo, where you can dance the night away or hide on a secluded couch with the locals. Also located in San Jose are Daddy X's and a hip reggae bar a few doors down. These are where the locals hang out. To ensure you have a good time, start the night out with a shot or two of Guaro, the local version of Moonshine. Anything goes, even blues clues band-aids and orange pumpkin pants.

There was a clun right outside of San Jose called Studio 80 that was a great dance club. Also at Poco Sol, we took night hikes and got to see some great animals. Its basically the same as here in the United States.

Colo Colo Beach: Colo Colo

by pedro_toronto

If going to Liberia then for nightlife you should check out Colo Colo beach, there a few bars and hang out spots.

Mac's: American bar sans Americans.

by vegannramember

Couple pool tables, alcohol, and a really weird Southern theme.

Everywhere: Swinging hips

by Virty

Make sure to take your swining hips to Costa Rica, because you cannot go there without doing some Salsa dancing!

Q:  Can anyone recommend something, moderately priced, w/ pool & a/c?

A: Banana Azul is wonderful. You should wait until September and October for the best weather there. Samasati is also very nice, a wellness center.
